I am looking for some info on what cams seem to work best on a pre 03 sv 650.
Moving the intake cams to the exhaust and installing '03 intake cams in the intake IIRC. That is for '99-'02 SV's. Never did it but its a cheap mod.
Good bang for the buck. Around 200 bucks in parts. 5 + horespower increase, better mid range power. No need for aftermarket adjustable cam sprockets, 03 + cams drop rite in. Follow the instructions in the suzuki manual as if you are installing stock cams. Svrider.com has a sticky all about it in the first generation modifications section. Good luck, try not to drop parts down in your motor when you are doing the mod.
Not supersport legal though.

Dave, can you let me know why its not SS legal. Is there a difference between the 02 and 03 other than fuel injection.
I have heard of guys using 03 motors in 02 SV frames and they said it was SS legal.
Been reading the rules and the SuperSport Post in General and have just gotten really confused on what is and what isn't. But then everyone says that everyone plays around the rules.
Just really confused for a new person to the club racing scene.
Thanks!
I don't work for CCS. So, the best answer for some of the questions would be to ask Eric Kelcher at CCS directly.
No updating or back dating of parts is allowed, unless it's the same part, like 99 SV cams in an 01 SV.
If an exhaust cam is supposed to have a particular measurement, and if the cam in that position is measured and it's different, like the intake cam, well, I'm betting that you're going to be found with an illegal engine modification.
Talk to Eric for difinitive official answers.
To keep from pulling your hair out about SS rules, modify the heck out of your bike and race in LWSB, LWGP, Thunderbike, Supertwins, GTL or whatever class you want to race in except LWSS. No worries, racing is fun. Modifying your bike is fun. If you do the the O3 Cam swap you will not be disappointed. Flatslide carbs, 03 Cam Swap, a 2005 shift star on your first gen SV. You're rockin! You could see a 80 Hp SV with stock bore with good gas.
yeah thats a good idea. Talked to Eric K at ASRA and guess some folks are thinking OEM is all that matters. He said (sorry not an exact quote) but OEM as produced, no swapping intakes and exhausts.
Guess I will just ahve to use LWSS as a way to tell the misses I need a new bike every couple of years.
Well I am running my good old stock motor with U4 and calling it a day for the start of the season. Worked last year.
Plus I hear that lap times are a matter of good suspension and setup more than old american drag racing HP.
Shift Stars aren't available at the moment. Factory Pro told me they are remaking them specifically for the 1st gen because of some issue. Asked if the 2nd gen would work but they recommened I wait for the new design. Sorry couldn't get any specifics.
Suspension is the Key. Ask Ed Key... ;)
The 2005 SV stock shift kit works great. Resembles factory Pro Shift kit
Get these #'s 10,14,15,16,17,25.

Awesome thanks looks like a lot cheaper way to go as well.

LOL! Your racing budget is too big. For that kind of money, go buy a 2001 R6 or something.

Not really the all mighty super duper dave, I have way less money than you would think tied into road racing.
Is that what you tell your students when they start modifying their bike? Go buy a different bigger faster bike? LOL!!!!!
Cams are 200 bucks, install is easy
Shift kit is 40 bucks, install is easy
Flatslides are a little expensive, but I found mine for a song, install is easy, just need a little Dyno Time.
Where is the high dollar racing budget?
You don't have to buy all the high dollar goodies, a little imagination, and some boredom in the winter time goes a long way.
Knowing a tool and die maker helps to...
You wanted to go Superbike...
Stock cams still come with the bike. And an extra 10HP probably won't impact your lap time.

That's wisdom. Learning how to turn knobs, move forks, and adjust chains...well, that's still less expensive. Good luck!

10HP makes a huge difference if your suspension is all dialed in and you are used to the bike. :)

And if not?
Doesn't make much difference.
Used to the bike? Whatever... 8)
