Title: Getting started in racing?
Post by: joe97281 on December 20, 2005, 07:42:29 PM
I know that it is a very expansive question, but what is the best course of action if I would like to start racing motorcycles? I live in Kansas City, and i am about 45 minutes from Heartland park. From what I have found on the internet, I think I should start with a Track Addix day and work my way up. Other than the schedule for the TrackAddix Great Plains, this was aa far as I have gotten in my searching. There are a lot of holes where some vital information is missing.
If I wanted to race, what do you guys think would be an appropriate bike for a beginner? In addition, if I decide I enjoy racing and would like to continue, what is the next step after attending a few Track Sessions? As far as i can tell, I go out and get an SV650, attend some track days, and then go from there.  I am jumping to some conclusions with all of this,  but I think that with help I can gain more information and get rid of an misconceptions I may have had.

Thank You

Lucky for you racing in the Kansas City area has hit a pretty good boom... last year there were several new racers from KC that were regulars at CCS GP/Midwest events.  Myself included !

Check out http://www.kcsbforums.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=30&sid=7409ace69727856da53406ddfc80c2ea

for local action and news.

Several local guys and shops that can get you started.  Try calling Nick or Greg down at Cafe Racer.  They offer great advice and are pretty much the key to most of the local racers around town... http://www.caferacerinc.com/

I live in Lees summit... maybe I will see you around.

To race, you need to go to a school.  Just attending track days will not suffice.

I might be an option for you, and I should have some options for you at Heartland Park this up coming season.  I've always offered a program that is a bit more expanded that the regular MSF rehash and simple road course safety.

I might have those dates as early as late today, but if you'd like, you can sign up for the e-mail updates at my website http://www.visionsportsridingschools.com

I don't just run riders through my school to get them licensed or to get them on a track, I additionally work with experienced amateur, expert, and pro racers.  Once you've came to a school, I can be a resource to you.

What are you riding now?

Kansas City?  Whatever you do, stay away from Kevin Clark!  He's nothing but trouble.... ;)
