Post by: MegRyan on December 18, 2005, 08:00:19 AM
For everyone that is interested Saturday before the banquet there is a group of us that are planing to go ice riding on Delavan Lake. It is located on Hwy 50 just past Lake Lawn Lodge. If you have any more questions please ask.

Who all is going? I was talking with Tom Mason on the phone the other day and he said that him, Edgar and a bunch of other people will be going....

I'm not totally sure. Ryan Hall had said something about going and Johnny M. may be with him. Mike Gantz, Dan Doty, and Dave Rosno sould be there and i guess anyone else that wants to come. It's the public lake and anyone can come out to ride. The local kids that are into motorcycles come out and ride with us too.

Nice little road course for smaller MX bikes set up for ice.

http://www.sportemanspark.net

Probably can expect that we'd be riding Sunday too.  Usually our nice dealership is open now both Sat & Sun because of the snow...got to support the snowmobilies.

Is there a large road course plowed or is it just an oval?  Thanks

Both.

Large?  Might be too tight for big bikes..

For TTR125's?

You're a slave to power.

Track isn't small anyway, just a lot of corners.  Oval is separate, but also has connectors so that they can be either ran separately or as a whole unit.

No, not for 125's... for the big bikes.  ::)

2 stroke 250's, 4 stroke 450's... etc.

Yeah, you definetly need something where my CRF450 can stretch it's legs! That tight stuff is no fun on a big bike. Hard to keep the front wheel down!

There's a one mile road course with about 15 turns plowed on Silver Lake. We were out their Saturday. Fun stuff! Unbelievable the amount of traction you get on the ice. It was my first time, my cherry is popped, now I'm hooked to another form of motorcycle racing.

That track isn't far at all from Lake Delevan. Take 12 North until the 4 lane divided highway ends. You'll come to County road ES, make a left, it's on the left side where everyone was parking.

We do have a plow out there so we can make the track wider if we need too. I know of one guy that was out last weekend with a YZ250 so yeah there is room for the big bikes. The other thing is it's just a small section of the lake it's the inlet so we have a good 3-4 acres that we can bulid tracks or a bigger track on.

So, it's just outside of Elkhorn?

It better cool down or we'll have to go with jet skis.  I'm all for the tight tracks for the smaller bikes.  See you there.

It's amazing at how much traction you can get in 4" of standing water, and/or a few inches of slush...

Hi, all -

Happy holidays and all that crap ...

Planning to see you / ride with you Sat and Sun.

Humor the city boy for a monent, eh?

1. Is that the lake that the banquet lodge is on or is this the lake that Gygax / Dorn et al hooked me on last year - the one with the bar with the barmaid with the big ... you know ... hair (ahem) - which lake is it?

2. Got a gps or map on where to be and when?

3. Do you promise not to laugh at me if my snowsuit makes my butt look fat?

HW

PS - remember - according to my doorknob sign, I'm not picky ...

It's the lake down by the banquet.

Now it's just a matter of whether there actually WILL be ice!

It's not at the lodge, but about one mile further on Hwy 50 away from I-43...that's east.

http://www.sportsmanspark.net

It's on the north side, so if you are leaving Lake Lodge and turn right, it will be about 1 mile down, just over the inlet bridge on your left... Look for "Sportsman's Park Yamaha".

The only good things of this are:

1) Perhaps my $400 heating bill will drop back a bit
2) The new floor for the office won't have to wait until I get back from ice riding for me to complete it
3) if/when we do get a good cold snap, we should have some NICE  ice...

This sux.  I don't think it looks good.  Lows in the mid 20's Friday and Saturday but highs still above freezing.

We would need a week of cold weather before the ice would be good.  Anyone going out now would be putting themselves at great risk.

Before the weekend, the ice was still pretty good there.  If you keep the snow off the "track" that part stays colder with no blanket.  I agree that we need more cold.

True...

However, it's been above freezing for several days now.  The ice is going to be crap (soft and dangerous), especially near shore or if there's a current.  I would not trust it at all, it's not worth going for a swim or losing your bike.

My $0.02

Here's the forecast for Delavan...

Not cold enough to make ice (http://www.intellicast.com/IcastPage/LoadPage.aspx?seg=LocalWeather&loc=uswict6574&product=Forecast&prodgrp=Forecasts&prodnav=none)

I know it sucks.... Paul and I are still waiting to get out too.

Dawn

P.S.  Even at this late hour, the temperature is 37 degrees there.

That is one thing about where we will be at if it does get colder we may be able to ride. It's not dangerous for the fact the water is only 3 or 4 feet deep. But i know i sure don't want to be swimming though. lets just cross our fingers and hope for cold.

Looking forward to hanging out with all you goofballs at the banquet....you ARE gonna be there right??

Hey Ms. Stiles,
Thanks for keeping us all informed and watching the ice.  This should/could/and would have been the absolute STUFF!!!
Hopefully, there will be enough ice for you guys to have some fun.
Have you ever thought about organizing a ride?
(outside of this one that is)

Hate to see all your efforts go up in warm weather.

PLEASE BE SAFE!!!

See you at the party.
