Stumpy's getting the shuffle for Christmas, but someone just told him you can only load it with songs from itunes. I see it takes the mp3 format so does it really matter where the songs come from? Does anyone know about this?

They probably mean Itunes software. I know on my wife's mini, we've ripped stuff from exisiting CD's using Itunes.
I know there are other software packages out there that will also replace Itunes altogether (at least according to a friend here at work).
As mentioned, ITunes is just the software package. You can get the music from just about anywhere, but to get it into the IPod, you will need the ITunes software... (unless of course there is a 3rd party software available).
Ok, this makes sense. He'd rather pick out a comparable mp3 player than the shuffle if you HAD to buy itunes songs, but really prefers the shuffle for its size and simplicity.
He likes to get his groove on while hammering away at the gym, but doesn't like the bulky equipment attached to him. At least more than neccessary. ;)

The only drawback to the shuffle is that you can't select what you want to hear. i.e., you can't spin the wheel and bring up your favorite melody by Gordy & the Nosebleeds or whatever you Uupers listen to. You shuffle through whatever it is you have in the thing.
The new IPod Nano is all the Ipod, just smaller... Very small. About twice as wide as a shuffle, but just as thin.
It's "Yoopers" Jeff.
We looked at the nano but it's still a little big for him. He'll be taking it cycling next summer, too. The song selection isn't a big deal I guess. Our other two mp3 players don't have it either. He doesn't need to be searching for Da Yoopers' most popular tune "Da Second Week of Deer Camp" while pedaling down the road at 30 mph. ;)

Well cool! Go for the shuffle... With a little bit of grease, you could probably... well, nevermind... :o
Get some else.. like the Creative Muvo Micro.
The ipods aren't worth the money.. you're just paying for the name. There are better MP3 players out there for the money.

uummmmm...did I read that correctly? And his nickname is Stumpy? Hmmmmmm ::) ;D
I heard that it was Heather the one who gave him the Stumpy nickname...
BTW, Heather, how about some pics of that belly!
NO I didn't give him the Stumpy nick name!!! His friend did back in high school football because he couldn't say Steltenpohl. It went from Stum-pole to Stump to Stumpy. There's a little history lesson for you.
I have no belly pics!!!! Not a big fan of the monthly belly pics. But it's definitely getting bigger. People say I'm not showing much, but it's just the clothes I wear. I'm just pissy Alpinestars doesn't make a maternity line.
I'm 17 weeks now and I'll go for my next ultrasound December 20 and will possibly find out if it's a baby Stumpy or Stumpette! Yay!
Heather
Almost time to pull out my favorite maternity compliment... "You don't look so pregnant from behind."
On second thought, I'm usually the only one that thinks it's funny.
