Title: Headaches!!! Who is a headache expert?
Post by: J Farrell / Speed Tech Motorsp on November 29, 2005, 07:09:39 PM
Ever get one those headaches where you cringe at everything and anything? Shall I call it a migrane? You know where you want to just crawl into a ball and sleep. I got one of those again! I get them about 1 -2 times per month lately.
I haven't had caffiene in the past month and a half.

I mean it's so bad I can't walk straight. I can't hang walking. I'm going to crash into the walls!!

Usually after sleeping a few hours it goes away. Nothing I mean nothing takes it away either. No asprin or any pill takes it away. And I'm not trying that refer either.
I mean light, noise, anything kills my head.
I call it Brain Pain. I don't think I'm gonna make it much longer before I crash out tonight. Maybe my brain is just on overload.
They say the average human doesn't use like 75% of their brain. I think I use too much sometimes, I never let up! Always feeding the mind!! ;D

Any Ideas? Anyone ever had this problem?
I actually haven't crashed in a long time in case your wondering that. I'm on a no crashing streak. Been crash free since I threw away the CHIP's police bike in Daytona 3 times. There was a couple shots in Roadracing World. I have the other 10 action shots. I should post them on my site. They are classic.

Any help on the brain pain would be greatly appreciated. This board has to be good for something right?

Get some sleep and yes, drink some caffeine (expands the blood vessels) that may help if its real bad.

Had your vision and/or blood pressure checked lately?

The few guys I know with chronic head aches / migranes use exercise (jogging / power walking) to relieve a lot of head aches.  One was almost suicidal and started running one night; been better ever since.  I have no idea why, but it works for them.

Ok so far I've got a new Idea!! Go for a jog with a camelbak on full of Jolt!!
Picture that one! ;D

Well so far I'm drinking a glass of Coke i had buried in the fridge.
The jogging thing. I'll pass until I'm suicidal. It's 19 degrees out and ice everywhere. If I try running tonight I might come back with more than a headache. Maybe a broken leg or 2.
Tommorow I'll shoot some Kold Kutter into my shoes and go jogging. I better not forget the liners on the insides of the shoes!

caffeine will definitely help.  You may also want to try niacin.  Just be sure to get the kind that DOES make you flush.  There are two versions and one is no-flush... that doesn't work.  When you get the flush it is expanding the tiny capillaries that may not be big enough to carry even the smallest cell on their own.  I had a friend in high school who cured migraines this way.  It might make you tingly and itchy, but it is 100% safe.  Of course if you want to go the drug route, imitrex and zomig are options.  My ex swore by zomig as the only thing that would stop a migraine.

Stress is usually the cause of most migrains. How stressfull is your job? Do exersises like push ups, sit ups, leg lunges, almost any thing cardio vascular.

Try ice packs on or around the effected area.

Or... it could be a more serious problem. I would suggest seeing your doctor to find the root caus of these headaches and have him find a treatment that works.

If none of that works, just quit your job and have sex all day long.  ;)

I get migraines and sleep doesn't always make them go away.  I get really light sensitive, though. I'll get them from low blood sugar from going too long without eating or I'll get them for no good reason I can see.

Excedrin Migraine is my favorite--because of the caffiene.  Otherwise I take 3 200mg ibuprofin.  Caffiene from coffee or pop with the ibuprofin can help too.  I'm pregnant right now and can only take 2 Tylenols which does nothing unless I drink a can of caffienated pop with them.  One time I took some ibuprofin and ate Ritz crackers and I swear that as soon as I ate maybe 10 crackers, I felt 100% better.

My chiropractor has yet to help with my headaches, but he did make my back feel much better!

Good luck anyway, Jason.  If we're in Oshkosh anytime soon, we'll stop in and see the shop.  I like to go down to Appleton and shop and we are due for a road trip!

I would get a routine eye exam while you're at it.  Make sure they take pics of your retinas.

Jason.. I get the same kind of headaches every now and then. Sleep is the only thing that seems to do any good. But sometimes Exederine migraine helps just a little bit if you take 3 at one time and follow it up with 2 every 4 or 5 hours.

By the way... I still have your air tank and robic lap timer. If you want it sooner than later which I doubt seeing as I had it since 2003, get a hold of Boyd or let me know what races you'll be at so I can bring it with me.

Naw Dude, like I told you before...the reason the head's bigger than the shaft is to keep your hand from flying off and smacking your forehead so you DON'T end up with headaches.   ;)

That describes the headaches I get.

The only thing that helped me was kicking my caffeine addiction and getting some decent sleep each night.

I am on my second time I quit caffeine cold turkey. It took me about 6 weeks to have the headaches go away.

It was not as bad as quitting smoking though.

IFunny thing is my worst injury ever was 3 crushed vertebras in my middle back area, 7 broken ribs & a puncture wound to my head back in 2000 while at work I fell off a roof and landed upside down on my head and back on a stepping stone in the grass. Ouch

Well here is the headache update!! :)

I feel way better today. I took a nap before writing that but still had a pretty good headache. I went on a no caffiene spree for about 2 months but the whole time the headaches have been the same all year.
So Baker tells me to drink caffine again so I dug out an old bottle of Coke in the fridge (I hate Coke just so you know). I drank about 1/2 glass and about 1/2 hr later I start feeling much better. I felt so good I ended up staying up until 4am.
Needless to say 9am came around a little to quick for me.
I'm going to try a bunch of different things when it comes back.
Slowly throughout the day I can feel one coming on. It takes about 5hrs and then I can't take it anymore. I take asprin and it does nothing for me until I either sleep or like last night drink a 1/2 glass of Coke.
I guess it's good for something besides rotting your teeth or unclogging the drain.  ;D
Thanks for your all your input,
-Farrell
