Give a big thanks to some of our fore fathers
Thats pretty funny, this web site won't let me write "D*ICK" Mann. ???
Yvon is on the Kawasaki H1R that he rode for Bob Hansen.
Ooo, and I raced against the BSA that Mann is on in 1997. If that picture is from Daytona 1971.
Duhammel is on a buell and it's leaking oil! See, he's looking down to check the level!
What's Gene Ramaro riding?

;D ;D ;D
That would be Romero and it appears to be a Yamaha TZ750.

Oh, no, it was better yet.
Kawasaki made the H1R so trick on year that they made the engine cases out of magnesium.
The cases started on fire with him aboard at like 170. He had to bail off because the heat of the magnesium fire...well, you get it...
QuoteThat would be Romero and it appears to be a Yamaha TZ750.
I agree, but it might be a TZ700, as it has low pipes.

Do you think he's looking though his corner enough Dave?
Romero was a dirt tracker. Probably doing it right. By the banking, it looks like the old Loudon. Maybe not...
Here's a few of Steady Eddie Lawson :) It just amazes the he*ll out of me how far we have come with Technology in the past 20 years. Vintage motorcycle racing is very interesting.

Some photos of Sante Fe before they tore it down, and an old race flyer, very cool!
Such a shame, I wish I was old enough to go to the races before they tore that place down. It was so close to where I live, and all the big guns were racing 30 minutes away from my house. DAMN! :(

Is that old board track?
I don't know. The file name is old Daytona. I've had it on my computer for some time now and can't remember where it came from.
Heather
Yeah, some day I'd like to have an old board track racer like that.
Have you ever raced board track Dave? ;D
QuoteIs that old board track?
Yeah, not Daytona. Daytona wasn't built until 1960 or so. Raced on it in 1961? Those bikes are from the 20's or so.
Board track racing was big business. Fast, smoky, boards coming off the track and through riders arms as they raced, betting, etc.
Lots of racers got hurt.
QuoteIt just amazes the he*ll out of me how far we have come with Technology in the past 20 years. Vintage motorcycle racing is very interesting.
No, no, no...
This is vintage motorcycle racing...
http://worldmotorcycles.com/Pages/daytona02p.html
A bike that is old now racing. You know what you need to fix after years of it breaking, the tires are better, etc.
And this still was racing just like it is now....
http://worldmotorcycles.com/Pages/vintage.html
It's top of the line stuff for the era. Looking for an edge.
Having raced bikes as old as me, they still have similar principles that apply. But you're dealing with metalurgy that is different. Availability of NOS parts, but still.
You can go have an old bike GMD Computracked at 4&6 and apply basic geomety optimization to it and get a result.
Tires are much better.
QuoteHave you ever raced board track Dave? ;D
LOL, one time in....
;D ;D

The REAL Johnny B. Guy with the beard is Jerry Wood.
Johnny, you've always got good pictures. Any of 1/4-ley with Daytona Mike?
