Check out this computer (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16883102648) from newegg. I got one for my father-in-law, and after seeing the quality, I ordered another for use as my home computer.
Unfortunately, I bought the first one before we got the free monitor. This PC is simple, quiet and best of all, no preloaded AOL crap (or any of that other "software" that comes with most user ready PCs. ) This means you'll need to install Office, anti-virus and all of the necessaries, but for that price, who cares?
It doesn't come loaded with much, but for my FIL I added a second HD for extra storage, and a DVD ROM, so he can burn from one disc to another.
What I was really impressed with was that it had an SMC Mobo, a 7200 spin Western Digital HD, and ASUS optical drive. ABS is newegg's house brand, so all of the components are top notch.
Figured this was a deal y'all might want to know about since a basic, family computer is on a lot of shopping lists.
I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND A GOOD BOOK!
