UNBELIEVABLE! ;D
I love racing with you Midwest guys but it's time we got our own schedule, and this one fits the bill nicely. 2 rounds at the all new HPT, 3 at MAM, Hallett and Gateway back on the schedule.... Dean just gave my racing career a new lease on life!
Everyone give Dean a big fat pat on the back!!!
I am so there
THANK YOU DEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think this will be a great series and I look forward to it.
I started running track days with Dean early this year. This is almost perfect timing to start actually racing. Dean and crew are a great bunch to be with. I'm looking even more forward to my first season if thats possible :P :D
This has to be the best news I have heard all year related to racing. Thanks a million Dean. I was very close to just quitting because of the long drives and money. Finally a real GP region for us. I cant wait!!!! Oh this is gonna be good. Gateway and Hallet too!! more visits to HPT and MAM. YES!!!! A new track in Nebraska !!!! What an early christmas gift this is.

Amen Brother....
Yes, this region is a little longer drive for me than the MW, but I will definitely be going to Hallett, the new track in Nebraska, and at least one of the HPTs and MAMs.
Also, did you notice that they are going to have a 2 hour Team Challenge on Saturdays? SWEET!!! :D
Sounds nice... any idea on what kind of computerized systems they may have... ie. laptimes avail. on the web and results and points actually calculated correctly?
There has to be some consideration of having the Road America Weekend changed to maybe the weekend before the AMA. Riding around that place with snow flakes falling is not a good time. I have to give Dean an atta boy! because I know the CCS did not come up with this one. Just my two cents!!!!
Anybody got an idea if the gate and race fees are going to be the more, less or the same.

He is going with an AMB system so he can use mylaps.com like WERA does so we can have posted lap times!

Whatever!
Now I get to see if I can still pass r1owner like in the old days 8)

Hmmm.... let me see... I'm trying to recall where said pass occured? ;D
Better bring more than that RC though! :P
Looks like this should be a cool addition for the Great Plaines Region. I hope that CCS learned from that mess that happened with the affiliation for the Great Lakes Region before it ended. Hopefully it will be pre-determined who exactly is going to run the combined events, how schedules will be run, what classes will and won't be run, etc. If those things are worked out ahead of time I bet this could work great!
Is the pricing structure for the GP events going to be the same as CCS events? Also, being as how the 2 hour races are not affiliated with the national run series, how are their prices going to be as well?
Since people like myself will probably run both this and the Midwest schedule, are the schedules going to be non-conflicting? In the past if there was a conflict most people would choose 1 region and run it's full schedule then maybe run a couple of the other regions events. If the schedules didn't conflict at all you would probably see more dual region followers.
I noticed Brainerd is on the TrackAddixx schedule for track days in '06, I liked racing there in the past when CCS went there. I realize that track would be stretching it for the Great Plaines Region, but it would be awesome if either the Great Plaines or Midwest Regions could venture up there for even just 1 event.
Looking at that new track in Nebraska it seems it should be a fun track, I plan on going there and giving it a try. Same with Hallet, I must go see if that track is as fun as all the people claim it is. :)
I just noticed there's no Barber event listed, what a loss, that track is wild and 1 of the main tracks I look forward to each season. I noticed Gateways on the schedule though, I would prefer to drive 13 hours to race at Barber any day over the 5 hour drive to Gateway!

What is it with people's disdain for Gateway? I think Gateway is a nice track. It even has nice bathrooms.

-No run-off and walls in some critical areas
-Bogus excuse for a race track leading up to that last joke of a turn/chicane/impact zone
-Bathrooms might be ok, but that overwellming smell coming from the dump across the interstate can be intense at times!
The layout of the course in itself isn't so bad, but I can't think of another track that I have raced at that I would rate overall as poorly as Gateway. Each track has it's good and bad features, it's just that Gateway doesn't have enough positives to make up for it's negatives. Gateway doesn't have any features about it's track layout that stand out as something I look forward to, it's design is quite basic in my opinion and typical of a NASCAR oval.
Though I only raced there in the mid-90's with CCS, Gratten would have placed a close 2nd at the bottom of that list. The track surface at that time sucked, the bathrooms sucked, and the pits were in crappy condition. But Gratten made up for it with a challenging & unique track configuration that was like no other in the Midwest at that time and was relatively safe.
Figuring that Barber is at the top of my best tracks list, and Gateway has the very bottom position, I don't even consider it a choice in which track I would prefer to race at! :)
I have never riden at Gateway, but I have seen on-board video from it, and needless to say it dosen't look very safe and or/fun for a 170HP Liter Bike..Maybe a PW80, would be better suited for that track...
What is a laptime there something like :55 Seconds? LOL...
If CCS dosen't goto Gingerman to many times, I may just run the MW region...I really love Barber and BHF, and don't think I live without those tracks....
We will see...

Gateway isn't nearly as bad as most people make it out to be. There are really only two turns that are questionable IMO.
You just have to make the choice if you want to risk it in those two turns for a piece of wood.
As far as I know a respectable lap time from an expert there is 1:08 seconds, not that far off a top running expert time at BHF. You don't need to worry,
you won't be cracking any 1:08's at Gateway.

That's what sucks about Barber not being on the schedule, it has been a Great Plaines Region event so far, not a Midwest Region event. I realize that the event will most likely still be run with the other Regions and FUSA, but me personally I have an issue with running races that ultimately don't count toward a region I'm following. Also, it can be difficult to find others to go to a race that isn't local and doesn't count toward your region, so costs can get crazy really fast without others to help share the expense.
It's still really early as far as schedules are concerned, I'm just voicing my opinion to let it be know to any silent lurkers in positions of power who may be browsing here for opinions. :)

How is Barbar a Midwest or Great Plains track anyway? Alabama seems a far way from either of those designations. I understand there being a limited number of tracks in those regions before. But hauling all the way to Alabama seems worse than doubling up on BHF, or Mid-America, or now Heartland Park.
More curious than anything, not wanting an argument, just information.

Since I don't know anything about you I'm not sure if you have raced at any of those mentioned tracks before. Barber is a destination track for me, it's such a blast, it's very addicting if you haven't been there before. As far as distance goes I look at it like this, Hallet to Road America is Great Plaines? I can drive to Barber in about the same amount of time as someone who lives near Hallet would take to drive to Road America. Something I have learned is that the Regions don't really have boundaries where 1 starts and another begins, it's more about how many racers in a general area of the US will travel to what tracks?
Barber is a 13 hour drive for me each way, and was only once per season, so I was glad to get to run that track. I consider that drive to be about as far as I would go for a regional race, 1 days drive. Kind of like RA and Hallet, they are extremes of the Great Plaines Region, but they are only run once each, so that means 1 long travel event each for racers that live near 1 or the other. :)
Reasonable-
Hallett: 5 hours
MAM: 3 hours
Heartland Park: 1 HR 45 min
Gateway: 4 hours
Nebraska: ? 3 to 5 hours guess
Not-
Road America: 10 hrs
BHF: 8 hrs
Gingerman: 12 hrs
Barber: 13 hrs
Joliet: 9 hrs
My opinion. :)
I like Hallett more than I like Barber, period.
QuoteG You don't need to worry, you won't be cracking any 1:08's at Gateway.
:o
Wow...alrightly then...Thanks for that vote of confidence... ::)
It's all good, I have made it my life's mission to prove people wrong... ;D
QuoteIt's all good, I have made it my life's mission to prove people wrong... ;D
Just do it!
Dean told me he wanted to put barber on the schedule but it would have been the next weekend after one of the more local races. He is trying to keep traveling to a minimum to make it cheaper to race. I don't really agree with RA being a GP race-I would be all for driving up there in the summer, but not in the winter...brrr!! I also think he could have dropped whatever weekend is just before barber and included barber instead if its a track we go to more than once. Overall the schedule works well and I look forward to hitting all the dates!
-Nick
Hey, you can still go to Barber. It just won't count toward your championship points in the region you're a regular in.
There was a time when we raced where we wanted to. This championship thing is kind of manufactured.
But I like how the GP schedule looks. Too bad I don't live in Omaha anymore...
This is a unique opportunity for those that live in the area to be a part of something new...new schedule, new everything.
Gateway is a fun little track, just remember your racing for a piece of wood not $10,000.
1:08 is pretty damn quick at Gateway...
Don't think that would get you into the top five in the expert m/h/u in an expert race there anymore.
Last year I think Kevin Gordon was winning races doing 7s and 8s wasn't he?

Unfortunatly my track time budget died in '03 when I got laid off. I've been trying to recover ever since. But I do understand the destination thinking. I have a number of friends who are all over me to ride Barber. My track time has been limited to trackdays at Gateway....yeah, yeah, I know. Atleast I got some great rain riding experience ;D

In 2002 my man Monte Nichols was doing 5's and 6's to win races.

:o
Yeah, now that you mention it, is Monte retired? He hasn't been around in a while and I remember hearing that he had quit...
QuoteIn 2002 my man Monte Nichols was doing 5's and 6's to win races.
Yeah, Monte decided that 2003 would be his last year.
Raced the GSXR1000 in AMA Superbike. Monte was in my first school in 1993 at Heartland Park Topeka. We kept in contact and worked on things for years.
He works for Ford Motor Corportation, and when he got transfered back to Chicago and he was going to race with CCS, it was a nice fit to have him work with my school.
He got transfered back to Detroit in June. Good guy!
