Title: Yamaha Press Release:  Yes, we are sandbaggin
Post by: Scott on November 01, 2005, 05:55:21 AM
This from a Yamaha press release:

"Yeah, we know Ducati, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Honda are all focusing on Superbike's in '06.  Because of that we have secured the services of a former superbike winner to spank the privateers in Superstock.  We were also pretty jealous of Honda's great idea of stickin' it to the privateers in FX and when were heard they were leaving that, we jumped right in!  We are very confident none of the other FX guys have full semi's, multiple mechanics, and $50,000 suspensions, so it should be another easy championship for us."

That is 100% true.....We have had this discussion before, I still feel that the factory efforts should be restricted to stay in the Superbike and FX classes. And leave the more affordable classes (supersport-superstock) to the privateer rider so that we can show our true ability's, instead of always being outshined and out-done when trying to run against the Haden's and Disalvo's. Do any of you follow Supercross or Arenacross specifically? Well they use to be two seperate series,Supercross was run by the AMA and Arenacross was run by ClearChannel. Well the AMA has seen the light and bought up the Arenacross series and changed the format so that it is now a farm league to help mold and form new upcoming riders skills with out having to try and run with all of the factorys. And since the AMA is a bigger more well known name then Clearchannel it is getting more advertising and promotion. It is very similar to Nascar and Busch or what ever....If the AMA doesn't want to dictate to the factorys which class that they can run inthen they could always pick up the FUSA or WERA national series and change it around to be a similar set up.... I think we need to start a petition... What do you guys think????? ???

Well, FUSA could be considered the Busch series except it has really gone downhill. WERA seems to have been growing nicely and providing great opportunities for growth and exposure. Too bad we just don't have more WERA opportunity here.

Um, let's see...

In 1987 600 Supersport was formed for AMA racing.  Polen won that championship with a CBR600 Hurrican.  Had some support from HRC.

1988, Polen won again racing a Yoshimura GSX600F...that's a Katana for most of you.

It's nothing new.  Who cares.

My friend Dale Quarterley beat everyone heads up at Mid-Ohio in the AMA Superbike race on his privateer program.

There should be no entitlement or affirmative action in racing.  Rossi can show up, and I'll try and beat him.  To think otherwise is loosing by not attempting.

I agree Dave, I am always willing to dig deep and put in 100% effort reguardless of who's on the track. But what I am trying to say is that if there was a farm leauge there would possibly be more support from manufactures and factories. On top of that I think it would only be better for the sport, I.E. more available racing, advertising, promotion, involvement, from spectator , dealer, manfacture, factory, local business, corporate company, inside & outside the industry. But then again we are talking about the AMA here, it's not like they would want to try and do anything that would promote the sport. On my drive up to Road America for the AMA race, I did not see any sort of signage or advertising. But I did see a billboard on the side of a main highway promoting the short track or flattrack race that they had that weekend... funny huh....

If Rossi showed up at a race, I wouldn't try to beat him, I'd try to get a pic and an autograph!!

One thing to note: When AMA tried to do the Aprilia Cup class and the 883 class, it worked kind of like a farm system, but there wasn't much interest from the fans since none of the big names were involved...

Well, the thing there is that only Erion Honda is racing Extreme next year. Factory Honda pulled out...

The Erion guys are fast, but I don't think they can compete with the full factory Yamaha guys.
