What's the cut off? How many overall points do I need to go expert?
Title: Re: Time to ask, white or yellow?
Post by: Mark Bernard on October 31, 2005, 11:52:17 AM
1) 750 points
2) A regional Championship
3) A top 5 at the ROC
4) Ask CCS to go white

Any one of these will gain you a white plate.

Great ? Mark,
no pun intended,
Do the rules state Formula 40 points count?
Or is it just implied that 750pts, National Championship in any class?

Man...
I have been asking myself this question since Sept.

Right now, my break down is...
If I sell my bike, I'm getting a 125 ... Going EX
If I keep my bike, I'm going to try like he77 to protest... Stay Yellow
If I am denied... Not sure what I will do... Maybe go race cars ;D

Wow Xian, how long have you been Am?

There are alot of good reasons to go white, but you will know better than anyone when that is.

I would look at

Time as Am?
What do I want out of racing?
How much longer do I plan to race?
Where do I want my racing career to go?

Just my 2

I ran about 6 weekends in '03
I made my grids once in '04 (though I was at 7 weekends)
'05 I made the whole season, but was never able to get my current bike to the range of my last bike.

As an EX on a 600, I would be a back marker, and very unhappy.
As an Ex on a 125... I think I would have alot of fun.
As a AM on a 600... I don't know if I would have fun...
I didn't have alot of fun last year.

How long will I be racing... I don't know, but another season like this last one... it would only be one more.

OK,

Outstanding!!
You have enough experience to know what would be fun for you.  I think alot of us forget that unless we can pay the bills racing, fun is why we do it.
Which brings us to, what bike are you selling, and which 125 do you want? :)

Formula 40, Thunderbike, Supertwins do not count toward total points.

In the rule book under section 2.2.4 A 4, simply states any amature that scores 750 points in a 12 month period. I cannot find where it excludes Thunderbike, SuperTwins, or F-40. But trust me, I know it does.

I'm just joking with my friends that call me the biggest Sandbagger of the year :)

I'm looking forward to finishing up the last round this year on the 20th of Nov. and rounding out the regional championships. Then its time to get schooled by the experts and learn a few things in the coming year.

I feel staying amatuer for a majority of guys is not in their best interest. By running Amatuer it limits your exposure to the fast lines and seeing first hand what they do....heck you have the best seat in the house regardless if your a backmarker or not.

Pretty much if your in the top 5 in the races that you run...ya need to move up. Whether you raced 3 races all year or every round.

FYI... I got my license Aug. of 2000. NOT 1999.  ::)

And I don't make the rules, just race by them. I never had enough points till this year.  ::)  ;D

Last year (2004) I ran 1 class that counted toward total points. This year I ran 2. Gained enough points, won 3 regional championships, And placed in the top 5 in the ROC in 4 of 5 classes. (Wooo Hooo!)

I am very excited to be racing next year with all my freinds as a white plate. Like Paul James, Karl Kegel, Ed Key, Kevin Clark, K3, Bruer, Buxton, Doc Stein, Dave Floyd among many others.

Damn.... I need a faster bike!!  :o ;)

Maybe someone has an answer, I don't. I asked Tiff a couple of years ago because my points didn't coenside with the points listed and Tiff said that those 3 classes do not count toward total points.

Look in the rule book under section 8, rule 8.2.3

Dude, I owe you a 12 pack. I was about to fine- tune my RC 51 for some Super Twins racing for next year. Now, I think twice and three times about the new Yamahas. I have more fun on twins though. Guess I answered that question, kind of...

But, did I ever wanna go Expert/Pro in the first place? How does one get an AMA license for Motards? Petitions taken in lieu of points?

   Nothing like early morning ramblings...babblebabblebabble...
Title: Re: Time to ask, white or yellow?

If you think your ready and don't have the required points you can always petition to go Expert.

Section 2 rule 2.2.6 B.) "Amateur riders who wish to be upgraded must show a history of top finishes, particulary where Experts and Amateurs run together as wall as a good safety record."

If you really want to go Expert, all you have to do is ask when the list comes out.

AMA license for Motard? I don't know that one. Super Dave might know.

Actually, the rationalization is pretty understandable. But I'm not sure whether that has anything to do with obtaining the expert plate, although you might be able to use it as a loophole to remain a YPSB.

SuperTwins, Thunderbike and F-40 are bike specific/age specific classes, and thus are not counted toward overall points in obtaining an
overall championship. ( #1 plate) Like I said, I don't think would have bearing on the AM to EX question. Ask Kevin, as he will be the ultimate authority on this issue.

Uh-huh, I read the 8.2.3 , at least from the '04 RuleBook. The said classes are excluded from points accumulation for tallying, as Alexa points out, an overall championship. However, are they also excluded from figuring the Am--->Expert movement? Oh jeez...

Historically the grids for these classes have been really small. It's not fair to count these in the overall points. Example: Top 10 Middleweight rider in a 30 bike grid vs slow F40 guy in a 3 bike grid. Who would win in overall points?

Its just that i have been riding twins for so long now and i think i would do better on a twin ( no offense brad). So yeah look me up or i'll look you up as it gets closer to spring.

Thanks Steve. I think next year I do fine i'm not expecting to place i'm just going to go out to have fun, do well, and come back in one piece. I'm only doing a limited number of races next year ( about 4). Racing a R6 would be alot of fun and it would be good practice if i ever wanted to bump up, but i'm going to stay away from buells. None taken. In fact, I agree -- I think I'd do much better on an SV as well -- it's what I've been racing for 5+ years now. But I figure that bumping up to a 600 gives me an excuse when I'm fumbling around in the back of the pack as an expert.  ;D

To all: I'm totally up for doing Team Challenges on any bike with anyone next year. I've done it before and had a blast. Here is an opportunity for your team to sign up a National Champion early, like before someone offers me a multi-million dollar contract.  :P ;D

Quoteis 3 riders normal for the CCS endurance.  I know with WERA 4hr its usually 3-4 riders.

It's typically 2 - 3 riders for the Team Challenges. The last time I rode one, we had three riders, which I thought worked out nicely... it gave me lots of track time for an affordable cost, and I was pitting typically right around the time I was getting tired.

I don't know about the bigger machines, but we also ran the entire race on one set of tires, a plus to doing it  on an SV.

VIR or Summit would be great. VIR is my favorite track, although I still run better at Summit for some reason.

Hey Sean and Brad i'm totally up for team challege next year and it doesn't really matter with what bike i use. I think with the three of us as a team next year we should do pretty well on either a SV or a R6. I love both tracks (summit & Vir) so you can count me in for at least 2 events next year. I can even talk to my sponsor TH Properties to help us out on cash. They hooked me the last two years on tires for the season. So, let me know what you guys think.

You've got it all wrong!  Hair spray and gleaming chest medallions were the contributions given to society by the tribe of Bernard!
Title: Re: Time to ask, white or yellow?
Post by: Mark Bernard on November 09, 2005, 04:34:38 AM
Well... way back in the day when the dinosours roamed, we had a vision of using this new fangled thing called "fire" to thwart off the huge beasts. But what we didn't know, was that using the spinning wheel to make our gold chains, thus caused the hair spray fumes to ignite which in turn caught our mustache wax on fire as well.

Having the basics, fire, wheel, and highly flamable liquids, we threw in some metal, sturred the flames and presto! The Buell was born. It was a fine machine. Heavy but powerful. But along with that was the CURSE!

The happy but scarred Bernard tribe was doomed to be the ultimate Harley Davidson riding mullet wearing yellow plated sandbaggers of the mid west tribe.

Nobody would have guessed that the title would last for 5 years, but we made the best of it. We took our fair shair of crap from the other tribes. But we kept our heads up, our hair styled and our chaines shiney and bright. We rode hard and finally made it to the end of the curse for the Bernard tribe.

So there you have it. The whole story of the Bernard curse, the birth of the Buell and the story of a "fossel on a dinosour" winning the ultimate prize of 3 regional mid west championships!

Smart asses!  ;)

That's what I love about Harleys, Buells, whatever....  Time and technology move on, but they never change.  Grand Canyons erode, the dead sea evaporates, Amtrack offers service to the moon, but HD keeps adding spark plugs to Craftsman air compressor motors, and bolting them into bike frames!  As every other bike in the world gets better, rulebooks get rewritten.  Maybe CCS will take a page from AMA history, and just disqualify any lightweight bike with liquid cooling, overhead cams, rubber tires, or syncromesh gears.
I think for next year I'll build me a shovelhead with two engines.  I'll put a big bar and shield on the tank so I don't have to follow any rules, nestle a hocky puck sized zodiac medallion into my chest hair, slap some yellow plates on there, slip my noggen under a Joe Dirt wig, and get me some championships!
(We all love you Mark, but it's silly season now, and we're bored. ;D)
BTW, you're a slacker.  In my mere FOURTH season as an AM, I earned no less that SIX championships.  I manfully TOOK the white plates for my fifth season, where I handily won the F39.5 championship in two regions.

I, for one, am stuck in limbo... I don't really belong with the Am.s or the Ex.s.
If I don't find a 125 and I am classed as an EX, I really doubt I will race much at all.
