So I`m at a friends house who races motocross locally and I notice all these HUGE trophies. I comment on them and he says `You should see the size of the first place trophies!` This is just novice level motocross mind you,`b` class i think. Anyone else sick of plaques?
When I used to race motocross I took a first and the dust collector I got is about 3 foot tall. They did hand out some nice trophies. The plaques are nice I don't really mind them right now.
Ever try to keep trophies clean Tommy?
I prefer the plaques, easier to clean and they stack much better.
It would be nice to get something different for a change. ::)
Someone told me Larry Denning doesn`t even take the plaques anymore!? :P

STACK!!! HAAA! thats kinda my point...they just kinda get stacked everywhere. Don`t get me wrong. I appreciate the plaques. just kinda need a change!

Knowing Larry he probbaly takes them for firewood!
I'd go for trophies..don't have to pound holes in walls, and they'd look nice in a display case or where ever. Having ordered some of each, I know pricing is comparible if bought in bulk.
How about something I can drink a High Life out of? Walk around the pits and raise a toast to my fellow racers. Well, if we don't get new trophies at least I can eat a sandwich off the old plaques.

Gygax has actually done this. He has his fave mixed drink glass epoxyed to a plaque. He serves appetizers to friends on another! ;D

I'd have more, but that's all that will fit on a 3rd place piece of wood...
The Team Challenge stuff we had a couple, few years ago was nice. You could dring a miller our of it, and it wasn't plastic.
Larry...firewood...LOL!
I try not to pick mine up, but then they call me up to registration.
I like to leave them out in the pit road a bit and let little kids pick them up and take them to someone elses house.... 8)
The plaques make great motorcycle kick stand supports for soft ground. ::)
Becky said that I am going to be limited to hanging just the 1st ans 2nd place plaques. I acculimated quite a few this year. ;)
Beats painting my home office... I've got 2 walls done now. Figure 3 more years and I'll have the room done and can work on a hall.
That`s something I`ve gotta see Jeff! It`s super hard to make a room look decent if you hang those damn things!
It does make a room dark...
What does a first place plaque look like? :'(
The ASMA "trophies" from the September race:

Roger has done a few cool awards, such as engraved glasses (martini glasses, beer glasses). Just don't let Kane Laskey in when there is glass to be broken...
-z.
Wait `til Gygax sees those! :o He`ll probably move!
ASMA/ CCS trophies should be handed out to the winners of Saturday races that evening, so as to give the rest of us a shot on Sunday.
With our luck we would be handed 40oz beers (64oz for 1st place), custom engraved with a sharpie. Although we might be able to pay back to 10th place with the savings.

That actually may not be a bad idea!!! I would much rather be able to save money by drinking my winnings, than have a bunch of wooden plaques laying around in a box...
I think plaques are a waste of money. I'd rather they save that money and buy us a keg for the end of the day... seriously. After you get your first win, the rest are pretty useless. Vertical trophies are much nicer. And who decided to go to fifth place? All podiums are 3 places, so trophies should be too.
I don't understand the cheap plaques either. I used to race bmx bikes (entry fees were only 10$!!) and we had awesome trophies. ...and when we did have plaques, which I hate they were much, much nicer than any plaque I ever got road racing. Cheap bastards.

I don't think the plaques are all that bad for an organization that is run out of a dudes garage.
Other trophies we do (https://www.ccsforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.asmaracing.com%2Fsitebuilder%2Fimages%2Fform_femme_mar04-220x250.jpg&hash=bf823372f409076e25e24a25f8759670eeaef735)
We're trying to mix it up at every race so it's not always the same stuff. So far this year we've done trophies 1 time, plaques one time, oval ceramic's two times, etched glasses one time and the champaign and wine one time. We have something new this month that we've never done.

Nice trophies....
But what do they have in their hands?

Just pay money.

1st & 2nd place trophies?

But you have to turn them in the next morning.
Sorry, couldn't help but dig in the closet!
I got 5th at a NATIONAL for Mountaincross racing (bmx on mountainbikes). My number plate was a index card, a reused index card no less, and my 'trophy' was a Good Job and pat on the back. This was after paying 70$ to enter and I got about 10 minutes on course after practice AND races.
That being said.. I LOVE THE PLAQUES. Woooo hooo. Starting quite the collection, sure it will die off soon enough :-x
At LRRS we do get snazzy trophies for the September Fall Classic (mc statue) and June Loudon Classic (beer mug). See pic.

There are purse races for that....and how many people would be happy with $10-$20 instead of a trophy? (or less as the prices of small plaques are less)
I can understand there are some, (myself included, I actually recycled the wood from some of my old CCS plaques last year into new trophies for the club) but I think the majority would be unhappy with the amount that could be given in place of trophies, IMHO.
I just want some big freakin` Trophies!!! This sport is just as deserving of them as bowling!!! ;D
Yeah Tommy,
But bowlers have the 16lb balls.......... :-X
