Don't know how I can make it to the ROC.  I'd really like to go and sell some books, but I don't even know how CCS or Daytona treats vendors.  Between a plane ticket and vendor fee, I'd probably lose my butt.
Yes, I'll be at CCS Gingerman too.  Did you get your copy, MJ?  I didn't think they were going to release to anyone but me before Oct 31.
I don't have a paypal account.  Just for the record, you can get a copy off Amazon.com, or stop by any Barnes and Nobel and order a copy.
Has anyone actually got a copy yet?
Jack, I owe you a copy.  E me at racerk3@sbcglobal.net

I hope this is a joke.  I just thumbed through my copy and the pages seem to be numbered without a gap.

It'd be a major downer to be into the story and find a part missing.

Pics of the big guy? Jeez I hope not!

So far, it's Chris', excuse me, Ralph's epiphany.  His moment of grace as Flannery O'Connor would call it or a Proust "moment precieux" when he decides to go racing.  At least, that's what they'll say in the New York Times review.  ;)

I've only been able to get through about page 50 today since I've had my hands and head full of other stuff, but this is a really good read! It's hilarious to recognize some of the characters in the book.  Midwesterner's will chuckle through the first few chapters describing neighborhood motorcycle shops, BHF, CCS and, well, several of you.  It stirs up the memories of going racing for the first time.

Besides that, it's a totally down to earth. colorful and entertaining story of a guy taking up racing and I can't wait to pay my bills on this computer and log off so I can get back to it.

;D

P.S. Any of you old enough to remember the smell of mimeograph paper as the teacher handed out the printed forms for you to do your book reports?  (No? Ooh, it got lonely in here all of a sudden.)

I got my book today!  Yay!

Of course, I have to finish this god-awful but well-written other book I'm reading first before I can start it.  Never mind the other three I have going right now, too!  Jeez!

Now all I need is my autograph.

What is that, "What to expect when you  are expecting?"? BTW, are you still cleaning or flying somewhere?

Nope, that's one of the other three books!  This is actually Oprah's new book club book, but I started it before she made the announcement.  Million Little Pieces or something like that about a drug addict's recovery.  Not pretty. The pregnancy books get pretty dull right away.  But my pregnancy so far has been dull, too.  And that's fine!

What does cleaning or flying somewhere mean?  I'm doing neither!

(Guess who had an itchy throttle hand this weekend and took it out on my pit bike--I mean moped?)

What else could he do to that poor thing? It barely even rolled forward last time I saw it! Don't tell me, him and Ryan tried to jump the double on it two up once again after drinking a bottle of cheap rum? Or did he highside it while trying to do the Rossi? Oh, and it's a scooter, not a moped...Women, jeez!

Cleaning or flying? Go read the "guts or balls" thread...

Thank you! ;D
Of course there will be a sequal!  It may take awhile, though.  I have another book that needs to be finished first, although Highside2 (Actual title TOP SECRET) has been outlined, and the first few pages are written.  I wish I could devote more time to these projects, but I have a full time job and a racing/riding addiction....

My next book is aimed at trackday and roadracing beginners.  It's a how-to book that will hopefully cut some years off the learning curve.  I also have a sequal outlined for HIGHSIDE!  It's too bad I NEED to hold down a real job.  it would be great to stay home and write!
I'll have my own website together very soon.

I just finished it last night.  I'm still trying to figure out some of the characters.

One thing is certain, if I'd known Jeff W. beat that old EX as much as he did I wouldn't have paid him as much for it when I bought it off him!

Good read, HoeBiz!

Wow! I just finished the book the other day. I was really impressed with it Chris! It really hits the essance of what a new racer is up against in there first year of racing. There is a lot of good info and it was a superb read.

Awsome job Chris! I cant wait till the sequel! My review..... two thumbs up, with a gold star to boot. I truey enjoyed the book. I just wish it was longer. I finished it in two days.

Got my pre-ordered copy a few days ago (long delay... whassup wit dat? ;) )

Almost done with it (been reading it on the train on my commute to work.)  I was never a part of the LW crowd, so I have *no* idea who some of the characters are - though some are pretty obvious.  Athena?  LOL.  :)  But I'm enjoying the book.  A lot of your stories remind me of my first few races, and just overall brings back a lot of the simple memories that I forgot about since I quit racing this past spring.  I'll definitely read this book again, whenever I start to miss racing.  And I particularly enjoy the fact that you haven't seemed to lose sight of what it was like to be a beginner in the sport.  I'm sure based on how this book reads, your how-to book will be fantastic for beginners.  Good luck to ya!

And it sounds like you've spent some time down on Doty Road, eh?  ;)

Ixnay!  Ixnay!  This book is ALL FICTION!  The people, events and places described are strictly inventions of the author's imagination!
Thanks for the compliments, Jim.  Yes, I truly remember how it felt to be a beginner.  How could I forget?  It was the greatest adventure of my life!

Hey, Chris!  I've got the actors who will star in the movie "Highside".
Gene Hackman plays Larry, Glenn Close is Linda.  Johnny Depp or Tom Cruise will play your part.  Eddie Murphy will be the gangster leader.  Shawn Connory can be Peck and Cloris Leachman is Edna.
