The first 250 copies in the world arrived at my house yesterday. I'll be bringing them to Gingerman for STT ths weekend, and CCS next weekend. Hooray! It's finally real!
Congratz! ;)
Can't wait to get a copy! ;D
Cool! So thoes at the STT day and Gingerman will get an advanced copy? Will you be at the CCS day also? My copy I got off the net is missing a few chapters I think? ;D
So.....
How many are in a case and how much does that cost? :P ;D
will you be at the roc
would like to pick one up
Chris, I'd love to get a signed copy but can't make either. Can I PayPal you or send a check? pretty please? :)
See you Saturday.
Don't know how I can make it to the ROC. I'd really like to go and sell some books, but I don't even know how CCS or Daytona treats vendors. Between a plane ticket and vendor fee, I'd probably lose my butt.
Yes, I'll be at CCS Gingerman too. Did you get your copy, MJ? I didn't think they were going to release to anyone but me before Oct 31.
I don't have a paypal account. Just for the record, you can get a copy off Amazon.com, or stop by any Barnes and Nobel and order a copy.
Has anyone actually got a copy yet?
Jack, I owe you a copy. E me at racerk3@sbcglobal.net
Fine! If I can't buy a case, I won't buy any! >:( :P ;D
Just email me the info, Berserker Boy! ;)
You have a copy for me.... right? ???
Save me a copy for Gman....

Got my copy already! ;D......... From Lonnie! :P

My pre-ordered copy arrived in today's mail 8) :D
I'm looking forward to settling in to read it.

I
hope this is a joke. I just thumbed through my copy and the pages seem to be numbered without a gap.
It'd be a major downer to be into the story and find a part missing.
Sorry Kris, I'm a dyslexic illiterate...no book for me :-[
I'll get a copy from you when I see ya at Barber 8)
Pics of the big guy? Jeez I hope not!
So far, it's Chris', excuse me, Ralph's epiphany. His moment of grace as Flannery O'Connor would call it or a Proust "moment precieux" when he decides to go racing. At least, that's what they'll say in the New York Times review. ;)
I've only been able to get through about page 50 today since I've had my hands and head full of other stuff, but this is a really good read! It's hilarious to recognize some of the characters in the book. Midwesterner's will chuckle through the first few chapters describing neighborhood motorcycle shops, BHF, CCS and, well, several of you. It stirs up the memories of going racing for the first time.
Besides that, it's a totally down to earth. colorful and entertaining story of a guy taking up racing and I can't wait to pay my bills on this computer and log off so I can get back to it.
;D
P.S. Any of you old enough to remember the smell of mimeograph paper as the teacher handed out the printed forms for you to do your book reports? (No? Ooh, it got lonely in here all of a sudden.)

Probably my first "high." ;D

Welcome to my world Xian.... ???
I got my book today! Yay!
Of course, I have to finish this god-awful but well-written other book I'm reading first before I can start it. Never mind the other three I have going right now, too! Jeez!
Now all I need is my autograph.
Heather

What is that, "What to expect when you are expecting?"? BTW, are you still cleaning or flying somewhere?
QuoteWhat is that, "What to expect when you are expecting?"? BTW, are you still cleaning or flying somewhere?
Nope, that's one of the other three books! This is actually Oprah's new book club book, but I started it before she made the announcement. Million Little Pieces or something like that about a drug addict's recovery. Not pretty. The pregnancy books get pretty dull right away. But my pregnancy so far has been dull, too. And that's fine!
What does cleaning or flying somewhere mean? I'm doing neither!
(Guess who had an itchy throttle hand this weekend and took it out on my pit bike--I mean moped?)
What else could he do to that poor thing? It barely even rolled forward last time I saw it! Don't tell me, him and Ryan tried to jump the double on it two up once again after drinking a bottle of cheap rum? Or did he highside it while trying to do the Rossi? Oh, and it's a scooter, not a moped...Women, jeez!
Cleaning or flying? Go read the "guts or balls" thread...
Well, I sold about 28 copies at Gingerman this weekend. I'm looking forward to hear what people think of the book.
Thanks for your comments, Don!
hey chris...
congrats on the book... just finished it.... cool as hell.....
you've got a problem though..... i want more to read....
get goin on the next installment...
any thoughts on another one... if so u sold one already!!!!
Thank you! ;D
Of course there will be a sequal! It may take awhile, though. I have another book that needs to be finished first, although Highside2 (Actual title TOP SECRET) has been outlined, and the first few pages are written. I wish I could devote more time to these projects, but I have a full time job and a racing/riding addiction....
im alil confused. i haven't been on this site in a while.
so u made a book? am i right? whats it about? and where can i get one?
K3 has had it in the works for some time.
It's about road racing....all fiction... ;D
I think you can get it on http://www.amazon.com
That right Chris?
k3
u mentioned u were working on finishing another book first?? what the story with that one?
give us some details....
My next book is aimed at trackday and roadracing beginners. It's a how-to book that will hopefully cut some years off the learning curve. I also have a sequal outlined for HIGHSIDE! It's too bad I NEED to hold down a real job. it would be great to stay home and write!
I'll have my own website together very soon.
k3...
chop chop.. or more like write write... put me down for the first copy of that one!!!
once agian ... really enjoyed highside!!
how far are you into this other book? 1 year away? or more??
how long were u working on highside?
thanks
Chris, have you mentioned to Mitch that the book is out? I haven't seen a release of info in RRW either...or am I just missing it.
You missed it Dave. It was on RRW a month or so ago.
What about Mitch? Has he plugged it for you, Chris?
I just sent out some books for review, including one to Mitch. We'll see what happens.
Jeff, you saw the book on RRW? I didn't know about that either! What did it say?
Still hammering out the last details of the web site. What a pain!
I just finished it last night. I'm still trying to figure out some of the characters.
One thing is certain, if I'd known Jeff W. beat that old EX as much as he did I wouldn't have paid him as much for it when I bought it off him!
Good read, HoeBiz!
;D
Loved the book K3! I couldn't put it down. ;)
Wow! I just finished the book the other day. I was really impressed with it Chris! It really hits the essance of what a new racer is up against in there first year of racing. There is a lot of good info and it was a superb read.
Awsome job Chris! I cant wait till the sequel! My review..... two thumbs up, with a gold star to boot. I truey enjoyed the book. I just wish it was longer. I finished it in two days.
How many pages is it?
255 pages. Don't worry. The next one will be longer.
It is real good reading so far. Only on chapter 3, but I like it alot. ;D
QuoteLoved the book K3! I couldn't put it down. ;)
You are not fooling anyone here Kev... we all know you can't read! ::) :D
I got the book from Amazon today and ripped right through 4 chapters before I knew it. Great book K3!!! I am going to go write a review on Amazon right now. 8)
Got my pre-ordered copy a few days ago (long delay... whassup wit dat? ;) )
Almost done with it (been reading it on the train on my commute to work.) I was never a part of the LW crowd, so I have *no* idea who some of the characters are - though some are pretty obvious. Athena? LOL. :) But I'm enjoying the book. A lot of your stories remind me of my first few races, and just overall brings back a lot of the simple memories that I forgot about since I quit racing this past spring. I'll definitely read this book again, whenever I start to miss racing. And I particularly enjoy the fact that you haven't seemed to lose sight of what it was like to be a beginner in the sport. I'm sure based on how this book reads, your how-to book will be fantastic for beginners. Good luck to ya!
And it sounds like you've spent some time down on Doty Road, eh? ;)
QuoteAnd it sounds like you've spent some time down on Doty Road, eh? ;)
Ixnay! Ixnay! This book is ALL FICTION! The people, events and places described are strictly inventions of the author's imagination!
Thanks for the compliments, Jim. Yes, I truly remember how it felt to be a beginner. How could I forget? It was the greatest adventure of my life!
Just sat down and read my first few chapters of Highside. You really nailed it on the head while trying to convey to your readers what it's like to get into this "adventure". Can't wait to pick it back up...
Just got my copy via prority mail. Thanks, Chris!
Just finished the book. I loved it! When is Highside II coming out? ;D
I'll have to write it first!
Well, if you weren't running around sleeping with your teammates all over the place you could have already started!!!
QuoteWell, if you weren't running around sleeping with your teammates all over the place you could have already started!!!
Edgar, you're just jealous because I kicked you to the curb when your performance index tanked! Don't be a stalker beyatch, OK?

You know, Egar and Mike do have the same basic look, Dark hair, smokey eyes. Maybe you should start picking your play partners based on personality rather than looks! :o :P

Alexa, what do you mean? He was picking on personality!
QuoteAlexa, what do you mean? He was picking on personality!
Just keep telling yourself that... ;) ;D
Hey, Chris! I've got the actors who will star in the movie "Highside".
Gene Hackman plays Larry, Glenn Close is Linda. Johnny Depp or Tom Cruise will play your part. Eddie Murphy will be the gangster leader. Shawn Connory can be Peck and Cloris Leachman is Edna.
And for your part? ;D
I'm thinking....The actress who stars in the latest Zorro movie...you know the one....she's married to Michael Douglas, I think.
Catherine Zita Jones? Good choice. We'll have to make the part bigger.... :D
Alexa wants Angelina Jolee to play her. Maybe I could put a cat fight in the screenplay? :o
Hey! That would be excellent!! Go for it, Chris! A screenplay in the making!
