Anyone heard if this is happening or not?
Yeah, I think it is almost done...TrackAddix is having a day there in Oct, so it will be done by then ;D
Yes. Possibility of a "test date" yet this year.
Yeah, I heard about it being done, or in the process, last month. Hopefully they'll let it sit and cure a bit before any running.
I can't wait!!! I love the track layout but those bumps kicked my a$$. I'll be racing there next year for sure.
Jeff
Glad to hear that the repaving is going well! Belly pans are kind of expensive. ::)
So ccs will be racing there for sure??
As I understand the guy that owns BFR also owns HPT.
I know they are working on the track. The drag strip is running now. We have had wet weather for a while, so I suspect it has slowed them down a bit. They were working 7 days a week on it and the last I saw the road course asphalt was removed. That was about a month ago.
Yes, Ray Irwin put together an agreement that has HPT in his possession in 2003. He has owned BFR since, like, 1987.
Ray's a bright guy. He was talking about using the polymer based asphalt, but to do so, you'd want to do it when it would be hot, like above 80 degrees for ten days to two weeks. That's why some of the July programs had to be canceled.
he best be moving along quick, 80 degrees is disapearing rapidly around here. In the 40s tonight. According to HPT oct 17th has been cancelled. I'd call first. I hope serveral races and many track days are scheduled for next year. But I'm not in that loop. It is a great facility and the state of Kansas chipped in a lot of money this year. I'm hoping Ray keeps it busy, unlike prior owners!
I'll say it again...
Events in July were canceled. That would be a time when it's rather warm in Topeka.
Previous owners of Heartland Park Topeka did not own the property. The only thing they owned were the rights to have events at the track. The property and maintenance were the responsibility of either the city, town, or another group.
When Ray "purchased" the track I asked him about that because I knew how the track was owned before. Under his contract, he is leasing the track for a period of five years, making his own upgrades, etc., and then purchasing the track at the end of that time for $1. He put this program together at the end of 2002 when he was repaving Blackhawk Farms.
They have a contract with SCCA to hold the Run-Offs (National championship races) next several years. One of the promises that was made to secure that deal was fresh pavement and several facility upgrades.
Not much in the way of updates on their website. Would be nice to hear how the improvements are progressing.
I stand corrected...... update as of 9/28/05 on improvements:
http://www.hpt.com/ns/newsdetail.cfm?NID=103
Trackaddix has a Track Day scheduled for Oct 17th.
Their site leads you to believe that date may be 'iffy'.
http://www.trackaddix.com/events/?event_view=46
The October trackaddix day will not happen due to the fact the track will not be ready. I guess we will all just have to wait.......... :( :(
As of 9/28 it does not seem that all the asphalt work has been completed.
From the track website: http://www.hpt.com/ns/newsdetail.cfm?NID=103
"We were really hoping for the test weekend, but all the rain we've been getting has affected the paving schedule," said Raymond Irwin, Heartland Park Topeka owner. "Even if all the asphalt was in, the curbing and some other safety features would need to be installed, and there just isn't enough time to get everything completed in a safe, proper, and first class manner."
Note it says even if all the asphalt was in. This is in reference to thhe road course. The drag strip area is completed. It could be that earlier in the year the drag stip was done and now they are working on the road course.
Hey Gang,
TRACK NOT READY
---------------
I'm afraid I have some disappointing news. I spoke with the management of HPT recently and they WILL NOT be able to re-open the road course for the rest of the season. All the rain they have been getting has put the project behind schedule. They are looking at getting the re-paving done by the end of October, but then the concrete work for curbing, etc will take another 5 weeks to complete. BUMMER!!!!
MOVE TO MAM
-----------
Some good news for those of you needing that one last track fix to hold you over before winter sets in, we are considering moving this event up to Mid America Motorplex. Everything will remain the same, except that we will run 2 sessions instead of 3. If you would be interested in attending this event, please email dean@trackaddix.com so that we can get a feel for the numbers. We have to make a decision on this very quickly, so if you can attend the MAM event let us know as soon as possible. If we get enough interest to cover our costs, then we will do it.
REFUNDS FOR HPT
---------------
If you have pre-registered for the Heartland Park event, you have 2 choices. We will move your registration to the MAM event if you would like to attend that one instead, OR we will issue you a complete refund in the form of a check. Just email us with your desire and be patient with us for your refund checks. Kim will get them in the mail as quickly as she can, but remember we work "real" jobs too in addition to operating TrackAddix.
FREQUENT RIDER PROGRAM
----------------------
We have been doing some re-evaluating of our Frequent Rider Program considering the number of cancelled events this season. With Heartland Park being shut down for most of the year we have not been able to hold as many events as we originally planned. HINT! HINT! If you have attended 4 of our events at regular price thus far, you might want to think about attending our last event at MAM. Qualifed events include: The New Racers' School, The New Riders' School, The Track Orientation School, Advanced Riders' School, and both session or no session track day events. Non-Qualified events include: "Try the Track", Racer Only Practices, or events you have attended under some kind of free or discount program.
