Title: race body work
Post by: honda923 on August 22, 2005, 12:50:53 PM
I'm new to the racing world myself except for the watch all my life and racing dirt bikes, but the question is simple and is this when going to a learning curves school to obtain the cert for your licence, do you have to have the race body work on or can you simply use stock and mayjust have the reaar cowl on'
?

I can't say for sure in your region.  I do recognize that in the midwest area, you can use stock bodywork for your school program.  You won't be able to race that way, but you can get yourself a certificate to pay for your road racing license.

You do not have to have race bodywork on to take the school.  Just tape over or remove all your lights & blinkers, remove your mirrors and a few other minor things.  Check out http://www.learningcurves.com/bike_prep.html  for full details.

the AMA is going to be at VIR, and CCS is running races at other tracks this weekend. If you are looking to talk specifically to CCS folk, you would be best served to attend a CCS event.

If you're a VIR guy, you must be Southern.  I don't know how things work down there, but Learning Curves does the Midwest licensing.  Here's one thing to keep in mind. you may recieve a batch of coupons at your racing school to get discounts on racing supplies.  I think there was a coupon for bodywork in my graduation packet when I took LCR, but that was like 8 years ago....

Learning Curves has been franchised out to other programs around CCS since 2000.  There are others that offer the program within the CCS structure.

Now, you'll have to find the people that put on that program locally to find out the specifics.

VIR is AMA this weekend, yes.

If you're going, you can hook up with Aaron of Cornerspeed there and he can get you in contact with the people you need to know.  His program at VIR, not this weekend, but maybe he has something going on on Monday, might get you the certificate you need to get a racing license.  You've got lots of opportunites out there in the east.
