Title: HIGHSIDE! for bid at Wegman!
Post by: K3 Chris Onwiler on August 13, 2005, 04:16:04 PM
The release date for HIGHSIDE! is still a few months away, but I went to Staples today and created a one-off copy of the novel to be offered for bid at the Wegman Auction.  Here is what is written on the back cover:
--------------------------------------------------------
              EXCLUSIVE COPY:  #1 OF ONE.

This document is the only existing printed copy of the page proofs from my motorcycle roadracing novel, HIGHSIDE!  Page proofs are the final, edited version of a manuscript, and are used to verify its editing before actual production of the hardcover book begins.
The novel is moving toward a projected release date of Fall, 2005.  This single existing printed copy of the page proofs will never be duplicated, and as such may someday have value as a collectable.  If not, the pages will at least be useful as shop rags!  In any case, whoever bids highest and wins these page proofs will at least be able to claim that they were the first to have read the book.
This one-of-a-kind document was created exclusively for the WEGMAN BENEFIT FUND, and all money realized from its sale will be used by the fund to assist injured racers.

I verify that this copy of the page proofs from my novel HIGHSIDE! is the only one of its kind, produced and donated to the Wegman Benefit Fund on 8-13-05, by author "K3" Chris Onwiler.
----------------------------------------------------------
So there it is, boys and girls!  This is for Wegman, so bid high! ;D

Give us a teaser...  Maybe the inside book cover, or back of the book?  (just not the part about the author, we all know about him)

A couple random paragraphs?!? Come on.......

Suddenly, the sheep started getting nervous again. "They lie" K3 said, "the sheep all lie"

How about the opening paragraph?

The blue Suzuki thundered out of Turn Seven, pulling gradually away down the long front straight.  I pushed my chest down hard against the gas tank and tucked in my elbows, desperately trying to make myself as streamlined as possible while I rocketed along in the Suzuki's draft.  The white flag was waving as we blazed under the bridge at the Start/Finish line.  One lap to go.  Do or die time.

In related news, I recieved the first draft of the book's cover last night, and after requesting some changes, recieved a revised cover today.  It looks freaking AWESOME!  (Special thanks to Slider Jack and Jeff Purk for their contributions....)  I need to request one more change, so by tomorrow, the cover will probably be ready.  All that will remain at that point is for PublishAmerica to actually print and bind the books, and they will be ready for release!  We're getting close!

Actually, I NEED a new outer fork tube by tomorrow.

The book, that's just an interesting desire...

Will bring a few dollars, but sadly don't have as much to spend as I would like.  (like everyone else)
