So I ran about 125 laps on the South Course yesterday and have to say I like the N. course better, but the S. course will definitely be a fun race weekend.
S. course is MUCH more technical than the N. course. A right-left S leads you onto and off of the 1800' straight. I'm confident this will collect a large number of riders on race day.
The surface of the S. course leaves MUCH to be desired. It is VERY bumpy, and the 90 degree right at the end of the 1800' straight is choppy, off camber and full of sealant/patches.
Oh yeah, if you blow the last turn, I don't think you'll have a lot of time to say "OH SH***T" before you eat the airfence covering the guardrails.
Then there's pit-out which spits you to the outside of T1, consequently RIGHT in the race line... It's sad that so little thought went into this aspect of both courses.
So, onto North course news... While I was running the S. course with Keith Code, some guy in an open-wheel mazda set the track record on the N. course with a 58.2...
