So how did your race weekend go?
;)
hot hot hot
Yes it was hot....and fast.
Ran my fastest lap ever by almost a second. (1:14.3). Really felt I could have been in the 13's but suffered from traction issues related to setup.
Got greedy and made stupid mistakes pushing for 3rd, so ended up 8th...
Fun & frustrating... Full race report pending.
awesome Jeff!
you're starting to roll!!! :D
Andy and I were having some battles it's always a good time!
Thanks DanO. A bit more work and I'll be dicing with you guys soon enough... 8)
Yeah, you and Andy were going nuts. Used to be a guy could win an expert race on a low 13... Now a days, drop that to consistent low-mid 11's... :o
I think we both dipped into the high 10s in ULGP. It's good stuff!
I remember when we were ams and Andy and I did high 15s and I thought that was fast...lol
Oh Jeff, you'll get 13s next time we're there!
I saw that crash on turn 6 during the ulgp race. OUCH.
My weekend went sucky.
2nd race weekend ever for me, and I had a blast.
Was pretty much wishing I were dead with about 10 minutes to go in GTL on Saturday, but Sunday was better. The Breeze that was blowing on Sunday afternoon was a Godsend.
Put a move on Bernard on the last lap of LWSS, but got beat by 1/2 a bike length at the stripe! Good times!
hot
oh.. and then i come home to find out the basements half flooded.
Quoteoh.. and then i come home to find out the basements half flooded.
Cpt. America!...Man, you are not lucky! Maybe you need to get yourself a rabbits foot or horseshoe or something
Im not as upset about the basement flooding, as the fact that my wife did nothing about it. except sit there and watch tv. The reason, cause she couldnt reach me by cell phone.
For sure Saturday was too freakin hot for me, practice was fine but GTL I could only last 14 laps... Sunday was fun, wish we could have done the full 8 laps, it actually seemed cooler later in the day. Overall had a blast, makin my way closer to the front too! ;) ;D
QuoteI remember when we were ams and Andy and I did high 15s and I thought that was fast...lol
No kidding. I could hang with you guys for the most part back then. Then you two took off and I kinda got stuck in a rut.
Not sure I'll hang with you again, but I'll at least keep you in sight for the race. ;D
QuoteOh Jeff, you'll get 13s next time we're there!
Absolutely. I SAW them this weekend. They were right there. Just a matter of having everything in order. 8)

You'll make it up in T2. It's WFO from T1 to T3. That's the difference from 14/13s to 12s
Jeff I just saw your signature about buying certs for .70 on the dollar. I'll have $80 in certs with me at Gingerman if you want....

my reproductive organs were not able to comply with that logic this weekend.

What does it take to go from 19's to 16's?

What day are you heading up Chuck?
QuoteWhat does it take to go from 19's to 16's?
Corner speed and being smooth.
Dan the T1-3 trick has done pretty well for me so far, but admittedly I roll off for T2 on occassion. Entry to the carousel, as well as braking too early for T7 have been the culprits.
The second half of T6 is another area that I need some more bells for...
Now that I know what's wrong with my setup, I can have a bit more throttle there. I can't wait to get back out. Dang shame I had to work today...
Chuck, actually right now I have enough to complete this season. Need to focus on tires for now and then late in the season I'll start picking them up for next year.
If you still have it, drop me a line in Sept/Oct.
19's to 16's takes a bit of experience and understanding. A good school would get you there.
19's are common for newer riders, and breaking to the 17's and 16's just takes some understanding of what you're dealing with (man & machine).
Being smooth will increase your corner speed and decrease your lap times. However, making mistakes only serves to slow you down.
There are so many things that go into this. Setup is key. THe problem is, people don't understand how to relay information back to a tuner to get the bike setup right. They just know they can't go any faster. It's identifying why they can't go faster that's the key.
nice job on the 10's Dano! Thats hollin'. I know it wasn't on those new Michelins ::) Conditions much of been great. If it was 98 up here I know it must have been hot down there.

Sounds like you are a student of Super Dave also
;)
Are 12's at a track day as fast as 12's at a race?
"Are 12's at a track day as fast as 12's at a race? "
Only if you get a trophy and a kiss from the director afterwards.................................................... ;D
It was my younger cousin first year there this year. He has a hand fully of races under his belt in the past two years, but man is he fast. He entered 7 races. Sat.GTU he was in second place and crashed, mwgp he was in third and crashed again! Sun. he back it down some took three thirds, a forth and then in race 13 he crashed in turn 5 and the grass taught FIRE!! Luckily they put the fire out quick so just some of the paint got burnt. Overall he did great for being his second time on the bike. I wish I could say the same for me. Took three fifths. GRRR.

Ya I was on this year's michelins! I'm getting some things sorted out w/ my bike, tires, and set up. It's been working very well the last few weekends.

I've been through Dave's school and have worked with Keith Code personally for about the last 3 years.
Point being, instruction is the real way to get faster as it shows you where you need to improve and will provide you a path towards that improvement.
Barring instruction, you may be looking at a long hard road of trial & error, and spending years/thousands trying to fix something that may not be broken...
If you don't believe setup is key, you haven't been on a bike that's been VERY well setup yet... Out of 5 racebikes, I've had 2 (one wasn't mine, and one is the one I'm on now) that were very close to what I'd consider perfect. Obviously there's ALWAYS something left to improve, but at this point it's ultra-fine tuning, and the areas needing tweaks based on the track/temps/etc become obvious.

Before Dave's Class I did not know how to setup a Motorcycle. Now I have a good understanding, and as a result I was able to "tune" out 6 seconds of time at MAM a few weeks ago, getting me into the 1:38's, and also getting my 1st CCS Win.
I agree 200% that proper instruction is the key to getting "fast"
Dave's Class this year was my 1st real class w/ any instructor. But it won't be my last 8)
Here's a story from last weekend:
Sunday morning, group 2, session 1.
Come out of T7 apply full throttle and tuck. Notice what appears to be a trash bag blow over pit wall. Closer inspection (and high rate of closing speed) reveals not a trash bag coming over the wall, but a TURKEY!!!
Mr. Turkey is now on a dead sprint across the track and I do some quick math and determine my best bet is to keep it pinned and I'll get by before he crosses my path.
That was all well and good until Mr. Turkey starts FLYING! Now on a collision course with my head I do the math again: 30lb turkey x me @ 12 grand in fourth = NOT GOOD.
Nothing left to do but try to stick my head as far under my left clip-on as possible and brace for impact. Somehow Mr. Turkey and I missed each other but it was darn close! :o
LOL!!!!
Paul had that same experience at Blackhawk between T1 & T2 with a pair of geese.
;)
my story is that I was stuck in front of a computer all weekend long working. At least the air conditioning was on.
And Danno, we were flying in the 20's ::)
Jeff I'd like to ride with you sometime. Still not sure I'm ready to go fast though. :p
QuoteAnd Danno, we were flying in the 20's ::)
You showed me around blackhawk that day. I was having a hard time with the track until I started to follow you...
:D :D
Dan, quit hog'n the board and get back to work. There should be a fax coming over soon. As for my weekend that's the last time I have Dano work on my brakes...unless it was part of his master plan to have me buy more parts from him...?
absolutely Jack!!! It's been too long...
Quote...mwgp he was in third and crashed again!
Sorry to have been involved in that, but passing on the outside on the entrance to 1 is a bad idea. I never even saw him. Glad I ran into you on the track walk & found out he was OK & had little damage. The inside is a great place to pass at that spot by the way.
Also want to apologize to the 13x and either 108 or 88 (can't remember which was behind me) for the off-track back on track incident in 3a (I think). If I didn't come back on the track like I did I would have crashed & then come back on the track in a cart wheeling ball of disintegrating debris.
Chuck - I'll buy your CCS certs for .7/1.00 (and anyone else's too). Will be at Gingerman late Fri night - #806AM
How do you find out when Super Dave is having another class?
I had an OK weekend. Didn't crash, F40 - 1st, MWGP 4th. Started the two-races-per-weekend plan to conserve tires. Bike tipped over on the trailer on the way home. Got really lucky there; only minor damage.
QuotePut a move on Bernard on the last lap of LWSS, but got beat by 1/2 a bike length at the stripe! Good times!
That was a fun race! Nice job! ;)
