Title: Shenandoah...on or off?
Post by: xlr8tn on July 11, 2005, 04:22:30 PM
What's the decision...thinking about signing up and don't want to go thru the whole sign up / refund bit.  If it's off, do we have any summit main dates left?

From what I heard all the Main dates are taken. As for running the concrete jungle I hope they just cancel the dates all together. Most who have seen it do not want to run it, even if they still add the chicane. It may slow you down in the first turn, but what about all the rest ???

Yeah, it would be nice to know whats up with the event in August. Me personally, I don't want to run that concrete maze, but I kind of have to if I want to keep my points up.  It would be nice if they would cancel and just add more mains for next year.

Seriously, just over a month to go......it would be nice to get a Yea or Nay....

If it's still undecided next week.....I'm going to VIR for AMA....screw it.

Shenandoah for August is on, both chicanes are in and we are trying to get a test date within the next two weeks to help set placement of the soft barriers. (Bill Scott has ordered nearly 800 of these foam bales to be placed in front of walls and tires for when motorcycles or karts use either track.)

If you are available for a Wednesday or Thursday test over the next two or three weeks, please e-mail me at kevinelliott@clearchannel.com and I will give you the particulars once BSR lets me know the date.

(And the reason we don't have more dates on the main track is that they have all been taken. We ask for five events on the Summit Circuit every year and get three sometimes four tops. It is more demand than time available that stops us. All we can do is ask.)

According to all the schedules (ccs and summit point) everything seems like its still a go for racing. If anyone else has heard differnet please let us all know.

TPM ran a test day there. The way that it was run the configueration and the direction was the safest way aound that track.

Ok that answers that. The next question is, is there going to be a practice day the friday before race day?

The video they have on their website is not the way I have heard it will be run. IE it is run backwards (video appears to be counterclockwise) and I don't think it shows the new pavement and configuration that will be run.

Kevin, I don't even race anymore and you know more about roadracing than I ever will. So take this as an idiot thought trying to be helpfull. Riders look where they want to go. Grady pointed out to me years ago how close the rocks were on turn 8 on the main and Dam! I had never seen them. When you place the barriers with rider input, keep this in mind.
PS: I still think it's cool you check in and care what the riders think. CCS is still the best.
