Title: Nicky - Spoiler....
Post by: K3 Chris Onwiler on July 11, 2005, 10:22:45 AM
Man, that MotoGP race was awesome.  My throat is raw today.  Everyone for blocks around my house must have thought I was murdering the wife....
I just wish we could have seen his entire victory lap, then followed him around with a camera for about an hour.  I thought Mr. Hayden was going to die of a heart attack before the race was over.  Nicky giving his Dad a ride was first class, and mentioning the family's sacrificing to get him into the big time showed real respect.
Last time I was that moved by a victory was when Little Al won Indy.

I have been hoping for good things for him since Honda got him a new crew for this year in the preseason testing.

Didn't get to see the race 'cause I can't afford cable, but must have been good.

But, Rossi is so far in front, it was good that he didn't need to go win anything.  Two US riders up front is good.

SD -

Do you think Rossi was sandbagging?  On the last lap, it looked like he closed to within striking distance of Edwards . . .

I know Rossi didn't need to do much, especially once he saw Melandri in the dirt.  But I hope (and am pretty sure) that Rossi would have made a play to win (or at least beat his teammate) if he could have.  Is this the new, cuddly Rossi we're seeing, or did Nicky win outright?

Nate

Risk...

How much do you use?

1. Rossi, 186 points
2. Melandri, 107 points
3. Biaggi, 100 points
4. Gibernau, 95 points
5. Edwards, 93 points
6. Hayden, 85 points

Laguna isn't a big track, per se, in size.  So, getting hurt can be a possibility.

Wisdom can be recognizing that you first finish rather than finish first, especially when the two guys ahead of you know the track as well as they do.

It isn't sandbagging.  He was still flying, but riding waiting for a potential opportunity to happen, Hayden or Edwards falling down at home, is better than trying to make an opportunity happen...beat them at home.

Just got back from Laguna. It was super cool to see and hear the bikes in person. Man are they LOUD! Frankly, the rest of the AMA racing was somewhat of a let down after seeing the MotoGP boys in action.

Congrats to Nicky and Colin! Well done.

I agree Dave... Rossi was doing what a champion does; riding smart and finishing! There was no value for him to win, but much added value for the GP series by a couple of Americans taking the two top podium spots. All deserve a congrats... :)

The racing was the BEST! Familiararity with the track was evident.

Nicky's ride was flawless as was Rossi's. I would like to see waht the numbers were on the spectators. The crowd was awsome also.

As PJ said, those bikes were loud, MAYBE louder than Buells...... ;D

I just want to know how the heck thay can get all that power to the ground, ask PJ or anyone who was there. On turn exit they hit hyperspeed at hyperspeed :o ;D

Loudest bikes I've heard this side of NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycles.

On traction...I didn't notice any of the riders spinning up or painting big black stripes on the exits. Some form of traction control, or are the riders just that good? I'm thinking traction control of some kind.

Let's hope it's some form of "traction control" other than their right wrist :( :o ;D

Well put, SD.  Just saw replay of race last night on a buddy's Tivo - didn't know who would win, so it was all new.  I came up with pretty much the same conclusion - altho would not have been able to put it so eloquently.
