Title: Leather ?'s
Post by: tstruyk on July 05, 2005, 07:43:18 AM
need a new suit, overdue for an upgrade and a tucked front at MAM gives me an excuse to do just that!.

Looking for something in the 1000-1400 price range.  Saw a Tecknic suit on newenough.com (speedstar maybe?) Kangaroo leather looked like it had some good qualities... is that worth the $$?

Prefer perforated, must be one piece.  Any thoughts?  thanks guys!

Try an RS Taichi. Although the newer Teknics are alright, (much better than the previous ones), they still need a little better construction to justify their price point.

The RS Taichi are cowhide, so they're heavier than kangaroo, but they can take a hit, and repair cost are fiarly low. If you're set on kangaroo, get the MotoGPs, they're a well built suit and you can't beat the price point. both are avialable at //www.bikejam.com or call Lithium MS at 712.546.7747

I'm assuming you can't wait, but customs are always a good option, and your price point puts you right there for ordering a custom set.

I had looked at the RS Taichi as well... just like the idea of kangaroo I guess.

How long would a set of customs take to recieve from order to delivery?  I am ditching the gingermann weekend so my next race would be Barber in August...

thanks for the response!

I would call the companies you might want to check out, ask them their lead time, then add 4 weeks. Also, should you go custom, make sure you get measured by a professional tailor or seamstress. This will help avoid poorly fitting leathers that might need to be altered.

I think Vanson is probably in the ballpark with regard to cost.  TIming -- not so sure.

If you can swing a custom suit, it's really worth it.  That's my strongly held opinion -- but maybe because off-the-rack just doesn't fit me right.  At 100 mph and dragging a knee, I appreciate that there is no binding, extra material, or pinching in the suit!

legs fine, just a lil tight!

As for the # of animals needed to sacrifice for MY hide...  ;D  The extra "layers" it takes to get to the bone just act like built in armour!  haha

btw... I am coming back with a vengance!!!!!!  See you at Barber! (maybe gateway?)

Good Job this weekend, wish I had kept her upright, it would have been some good racing!! ... bbq = Randy 1, Tim 0  ;)

I got my Taichi's from Rob at LM also. But not for $1400.00.

I don't even think you can get off the hook Taichi's for that price...

Took about 3 Months for me to get mine, but well worth the wait. Rob will def hook you up, he has always done right by me.

Time frame will be hard.

But I test my leathers with some regularity.

And I usually wear them more days than most anyone.  They just hold up.

I wear Vanson Leathers.
