Title: Gingerman Format
Post by: Nik on June 29, 2005, 09:15:21 PM
Probably a dumb question here.  Can someone tell me what the format will be at Gingerman?  I don't understand the whole Saturday and Sunday formats.  Are there races on Saturday?  Are there seperate entry forms for Saturday and Sunday?  Is there a good explination of how it all works somewhere on this site?
Any help would be appreciated.

Here is the schedule for the Gingerman weekend:

http://www.formulausa.com/shows/pdf/Gin%20July%20SCHEDULE.pdf

Saturday is a Lockhart Phillips track day, so no racing.

Thanks.  I tried that link several times last night and it wouldn't work.  Got it now.

So, who has opinions on how Saturday works?  It sounds like it's just a practice day then.  Do people usually like the format?  Does the white plate group get a decent amount of tracktime?  Is it crowded, etc?  What's the general consensus?

Basically, everybody hates this format.  Cram 2 entire days of racing into one day, and shorten the races every time something happens to delay the impossible time table.  (Don't forget the 2 hour quiet time Sunday for church services,)  Now go ahead and charge the same for entry fees.
My two cents is that CCS is selling 50% of our weekend to street riders, and giving us nothing in return.  Sure, you can practice Saturday for an extra fee, but how is that compensation for losing an entire day? We've complained extensively about this in the past.  Essentially, we were told to shut up, because CCS didn't care what we thought.  Customer service at it's finest.

In case anyone wants a headstart, this Sunday the 3rd, from 5:30 to 8:30pm Gingerman will have an open track for bikes.  $60.

I would suspect a light crowd and the track will be just plain open (no groups)

Gingerman's website says you need to call Kathy at (269) 253-4445 if you plan to attend as they want at least 10 bikes to cover corner workers and ambulance.

Damn!  Now I hear of this? >:(

Guess I'll have to add their website to the ones I check out from time to time.

Say, any idea whether Grattan has these "test & tune" days too?  I'll go check out their website too.

Excellent!  They seem to have them (in the evening?) the 1st Sunday each month.  There's also a test & tune on Friday evening 7/29.

Hey Jef4y, at the G-man site they have the following notice (underlining added):
Changes at Gingerman Raceway:
1. The new bathrooms are finished
2. Some track restoration down at turn 11 has been completed
3. Significant additions have been made to the kitchen and a new caterer has signed on.
4. Heidi's has been redecorated and redone

I hope it's that damn dip at the apex that's been corrected.  Then again pit in and runoff space has been raised as issues before.

I gotta tell ya, that's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the schedule.  Seems a little hokey to do it that way.  I mean, the Saturday schedule doesn't look all that attractive with as many groups as they have.  And you just don't get the same thrill from practice as you do from a race.   ???

That would be a bummer.  I use that thing as a berm!

How often do Sunday's final race(s) get rescheduled for another weekend? Ever happened at Ginger?

Per the office this morning there is no open track this evening.  There weren't enough call-ins.

I dont' think I've seen that at Gingerman, at least in the last few years.  If things get tight they generally reduce the laps to 6 from 8 and combine races.  I'd expect that to happen.

Can you camp at Gingerman?  If so, anyone know the fee?

Thanks

There is camping at Gingerman, and they don't usually charge extra.  There are also bathrooms and showers there, and I hear some new, nicer ones have just been built.  The old ones were some of the nicer showers you'd find at a track already.  Maybe they'll sell the old bathrooms and showers to Blackhawk! :D
Electricity costs extra, and can only be had up around the turn 2 area.  If you're trying to make it to the gate before closing time in the evening, remember that Michigan is an hour ahead of Chicago.
