Title: Saleries for pro privateer racers
Post by: gpstar1 on June 27, 2005, 09:35:08 AM
When I was at VIR this past weekend my friends and family brought up a good question for me that I couldn't answer. How much does a pro non factory racer make per year?  :-/  I guessed maybe 30 or 40k per year, but I could be way off.

Some of them have to pay to race.

Some of them support their own efforts with sponsorship and hold a day job.

I'm sure there are various "packages" out there. I't would be interesting to get an answer.

A few years ago, it took about $70k to run one bike reasonably competitively in the AMA.  Was about $30k ten years before.

Dale Quarterley was one of the few privateer guys that has won a heads up race against factory bikes/racers...

An he lived with his dad well into his 30's.
