Hey guys,
I'm on vacation at my dad's, and we've set about fiddling with the suspension on a few bikes. I think I know what "feel" requires what changes in rebound and compression dampening, but I'm curious to know if there is a site (or string) dedicated to explaining that. (To summarize: compression dampening is too high if bumps seem too sharp-edged, and rebound is too high if bike seems to drop off the trailing edge of a bump. Dampening is too soft if there is bike bounces/pogos too much after a bump. Yes?)
Also, preload should be set according to the proper amount of sag -- yes?
Thanks,
Nate

Yes, preload is used to set proper sags. If you have to use a lot of preload, then it means the springs are too soft/light. If you are not using any preload and the sags are still too low, then the springs are too stiff/heavy.
Awesome -- thanks.
We're setting up the road bikes, so I'm just trying to get the most comfy and compliant ride I can while still have a bike that doesn't wallow at all. Fun stuff, and it makes me appreciate the fact that the set up on my SV was, by chance, great from the start.
