can you straighten rotors? The outside curb in turn 6 at blackhawk decided it didn't like my rotor straight. Its not bent badly, but its no longer perfect, or usable.
If you know of a place, let me know. Thanks
If you know of one or a set for sale, drop a line. cshaffer750@hotmail.com
WTF did you ask?
You didn't say 'straighten a brake rotor', did you?
Are you out of your freakin' mind?
You sure bixe are for you?
Are you allowed to vote?
Can you have kids?
FK!
Bend 'em back and race. You might not win, but you should get a Darwin Award.
OMFG
Yes. I've had a set of 600rr rotors straightened several times. www.framestraightsystem.com
More often than not, isn't the carrier what gets bent, since it is made of a softer material than the actual brake rotor?
I would ask; "how bad are they?"
If the rotors took a hit that only indicated 0.050 or less runout, then I would definitely have someone true them.
Rotors are made from some pretty soft material, I have seen some extremely tweaked ones that had to be s@%t canned but never one that broke.
A machine shop or a reputable MC shop would be able to true it if it's not too bad.
So, go vote and have kids!
Touche, L8 ...
The only thing I've ever heard of on this topic is to not fk around with welds, things that seal, bear loads or stop a vehicle.
Just the engineer in me.
I just don't like watching people get hurt. It's always worse when people stand around afterwards and say, "If only he didn't re-use that kotter pin 16 times ...".
Welp - I truly hope you get it straightened out - no pun intended.
Be safe, have fun and don't fk up.
Check with Piazza at Frame Straight Systems, he's done quite a few that I've sent him and they come back perfect.

So I guess you should trash forks if you get a slight bend in them from a crash too? What about straighting bent wheels, should you trash those too. How about frames, I guess there would be no need for GMD computrack, you just toss the bent parts. You can straighten bent rotors and carriers too, as long as there are no cracks, just sent them to someone who knows what they are doing.
How good does something have to be?
There are stock frames that come bent. Mine is included in that. What is the function?
Like someone said, how bent is it. Lots of things on a motorcycle still work when "bent"...forks, frames, wheels. Won't work like it should...
But if you've got a bend in a rotor, at that point, it's gonna push on the pads, which push on the brake pistions. Can diminish any ability one has of using their brakes...
Brakes are one of those things that one needs to work NOW. To slow down, or even aid in falling down to keep from getting harmed. A bent rotor might prevent that. Yeah, the other things too, but I won races with bent wheels, frame, forks and triple clamps. With a lack of brakes...there's no cushion.
Is .004" runout good enough? Mine were pretty bad to start with (visible bends) but I can't seem to get them any better.
Just send them to Ron He will take care if any problem.
Tpically better (More Straight) then the stuff that comes from the factories!!!

Great guy too.

Just to give an update to this post, I did sent out my rotors and a front wheel to Extreme Cycle in Kansas. Brian Lewis is the owner and he did a great job for a price that was awesome. His number is 785-234-5007. He did great work and is very friendly. He even had one of his sponsored racers, Rich Wu, deliever them to me at Gingerman so I would not have to pay shipping.

What did you pay per rotor? How bad were they before? Did you measure with a runout gauge before and after? Just asking, I've got 2-3 sets of Triumph and one EBC set that could use fixing. Tired of paying 150 a rotor just to warp them again in 30-35k miles.
He usually does them for under $45 a rotor, depending on how bad they are. If you fax or email a copy of your race license, they are a little cheaper.
Typically speaking they end up under 3/1000th total runnout. I can tell you that you won't be able to feel any discrepancies. If he doesn't feel that they are perfect, they get returned w/ no charge.
And yes......I do deliver for Extreme Cycle to any GP events.... ;D
