Are we going to have airfence for the upcoming races at Summit, being a national and such? If not, is it at all a possibility? Or is it just WERA that has it?
I know I've seen it there at times. But I think that was only when I was cornerworking the WERA races, not this year though.
While cornerworking T7 during the WERA event in April, there a bad two-bike tangle which sent the riders into the T8 tire wall. I know of many other crashes there that resulted in hitting the tire wall.
Just something I was thinking about tonight.
i would like to know as well. ???
If CCS wants they can definitely have air fence up for the races. I believe all they have to do is arrange for it as teamp promotion has purchased it and made it available for any motorcycle organization to use.
Last time WERA was there in April they didnt have it up, but i think it's just because they didn't make the necassary arrangements.
Yes I will be coming up. I am arriving Thursday.
Help me on turn numbers. t7 is the right hand 180 turn after the "mountain" and t8 is the 90 left (with an ambulance cut-through) before the right leading to bridge straightaway? If so then that is covered with ~100' of Air fence. Other area that is covered is the "mountain" turn with ~200' of Air fence.

GREAT! That's where I'd want it.
Turn 4 "the chute" i would think is the number one priority.
Don't underestimate T3.

Did you meet that tire wall too? :)
FWIW - there was no air fence at the WERA event or the last CCS event. Team ProMotion does have the fence and YES we can use it. I was told by Tom Foti it only take a few people to put them up and take it down. All TPM asks is that CCS or WERA sign a waiver to insure replacement or repair if the fence is damaged.
I asked at the last CCS and WERA event and I was told by WERA that it takes a CREW to set up, maintain and breakdown the fence so they would not put it up. When I asked Dave (I think) of CCS, he said he would bring it up but still nothing happened. I even offered to buy a leaf blower and give it to CCS and WERA if they would put the fence up but no go.
I guess something bad has to happen in order for both CCS and WERA to put up the air fence......which is FREE to use. I just don't understand WHY they would not put up something that could help prevent an injury.....it's available....it's free....I just don't get it.

Turns that could use airfence
T3, T4!!!!, T8, and T10.
please use the airfence ccs.. the scariest turn is 4 in my book, but there are several that could use it.
so im assuming it will def be up? ???
Being a MARRC cornerworker myself, I doubt other corner workers would have any problem with assisting with airfence. I remember putting up airfence in T8 during a WERA event several years. Not a BFD. MARRC has a leafblower or two.
I will be at the track midday on Friday. I don't see why we couldn't set it up at the end of the MARRC trackday .

No just bad dreams of meeting it one day. But I guess you have to be fast to meet things like that. ;D
Yes it will be there. I drive the truck and it is loaded and I am headed that way about 3 tonight. I won't be in till about 5-6 Thursday night (stopping in Mephis to see the Guggenhiem Art of the Motorcycle show)and if there are people to set it up we can do it when the track allows (thursday night/ friday morning)

I found out the hard way that you don't need to be that fast to hit there. If I hadn't done it, I wouldn't believe it myself. I'd love to provide details but any memories of the event were wiped out.
woohoo thanks eric. always nice to have that extra "peace of mind". idk what the norm is but if you need help to set it up i'll be there thursday night and on. ;)

I would have never asked, but I have always wondered what the details of your crash were. I enjoyed racing you and B-Mac in 2001 in Supertwins and was so saddened by the news of your injury.
Oh, you were plenty fast from my perspective. I think the only time I was in a position to beat you at Summit in 2001 was in July when you had a mechanical and were parked in the grass in the carosel. That race was red-flagged for an unrelated crash. Following a delay and complete restart, you soundly kicked my a$$.
eric,
there will be a few people around thursday night and around early friday morning i will be more than happy to help you early fri morning before the track day if time allows. you might want to get in touch with rick beggs about the best time to set it up you can find his contact info under the post summit gates open thursday. if you want to set it up friday after the track day come by the cafe and ask some of the corner workers i'm sure the will help.

"Mechanical." I like that. But the truth is I outbraked myself trying to win the race into T1 (it wasn't the caroussel) and needed an extra 3 feet of asphalt to make the turn. So I ran off. My good friend Pat was kind enough to plow into the last rider in the expert wave going into T5 and brought out the red flag. It would have been terribly rude of me not to win the restarted race after all his efforts. Of course, with my luck, I highsided spectacularly out of T2 at a track day the following day. I rode scared the rest of the season.
Regarding my T3 crash the next year, I only know what the cornerworker told me: I slid back first into the tire wall. He didn't see what cause my fall in the first place. I had always thought I was too slow through 3 to ever crash there. Let alone hit the tires. Heck, the bike wasn't even hurt badly.
