Hey, i was wondering who are the really good racers on CCS (or formula usa and wera and all those sorts). and if you get really good in CCS, is there a chance at AMA?
ME! ;D j/k
There are people who go 'through' CCS into the AMA and do quite well. Jason DiSalvo was racing alongside us just a couple years ago to name one. Obviously Tez Stewart, Dan Ortega, Jesse Janish, Tristan somethingoranother from CA, Blake Young, etc etc etc. They all raced or still race within CCS and do fairly well in the AMA ranks (some better than others obviously).
Being 'good' in CCS doesn't mean you'll do well in the AMA. Doing well in the AMA takes an incredible amount of talent, commitment, time, money and help. The money and help are the most difficult pieces to attain.
So, who are the good people? Dunno... Look at who wins CCS races and also runs AMA stuff. There aren't too many top AMA guys who come back to CCS or other club levels to cherry pick unless it's to further their AMA cause (i.e., running a new track, etc).
robert jensen
mike smith
etc
In the SE, Trey Yonce is definitely one of the best, if not the best. Last year he was good, this year he's just plain winning almost every race he enters. Personally, I think he's another Geoff May...but that's just my opinion. :)
Last weekend, the best racers at the Blackhawk CCS race were Shawn Conrad and Larry Denning. Both those guys are balls fast.
My Fav: Ed Key. :D
Then there's Jesse, and Blake, both who should do well as they are young and talented.
I think Ed Key is the fastest guy on a SV in the Midwest.
Pretty fast fellow he is! Ran a 1:13 at Blackhawk last year and the fastest lap time on a bike at that track is a 1:09.
I'd say he's one of the faster guys

Jinx you owe me a coke now! ;)
Nope, mine is dated one minute before yours. ;)
I'd say Alexa is faster than Nick! :P

In the world of online gossip I'd have to agree my Photographer friend ;)

Midwest? How many national titles has he won on his sv?
I can't figure out why he motors by me on the front straight in supersport. Supposed to be a stock motor correct? ;D
QuoteMidwest? How many national titles has he won on his sv?
I think its at least 7 on Big O and at least 4 on Little O.
I'm sure it's more, I just don't know how many more exactly.

Oh yeah?? What have you been hearing? :o ;) ;D :P

Perhaps Ed will stop lurking on the BBS and set the record straight.... ;)
Yes Ed, I said
lurking.... ;D

LOL, I don't think he can reply from work and Mr. High Technology doesn't have internet at home that I know of. He11, he won't even spend money on cable, it cuts into his Ti and CF budget.
::) ;)
Here's the official skinny on Mr. Ed (too fast for his own good) Key:
7 National Championships on Big O
4 National Championships on Little O
(4 additional Championships won on Big O by Dave Doe) That rhymes!
18 lifetime National Chamionships starting way back in the time before time, including AMA and WERA.
Ed, You must really suck. :P ;D

Ya' know.... We could really get the 'ol washer women going.... LOL!!!
Let's see.......
Dang! I got nothin' >:( Would you like to start? We'll see how long it takes before we get an e-mail to be nice.
;D
My father in law came out to BHF to watch me race last year....
He said that number 1 is one fast young dude. He had no idea that Ed is an older guy! I just laughed. :)

Last Year Ed Key had the #5 plate, and Doc Stien had the #1 plate.
This year, Stumpy holds the Number 1 plate, and Ed has #34, even though he could have his single digit number (7) if he wanted to. Doc has the #3 plate but will go back to his reliable 22 in due time.
;D

;D
why? did he run out of entry money? ;D
Brian Long won everything there was in the PAC and SW regions for several years. Kane Lasky was unbeleivebly fast a couple of years ago, then took a break. I notice he's back this year, I haven't seen him race.
I thought brian was the fastest guy I had ever seen on an SV, but Zoran beat him once at Willow. I know Z is mostly retired now, but i bet he was hella fast back in the day.
There's always Mark Ledesma, owner of track records here in the SW. He's a sometimes AMA guy.
Nicky Moore.
QuoteAnd you have no idea that the guy on the #1 bike is a fast young dude... ;D
Hehe.... my bad! He was talking about Ed though!
QuoteYes Ed, I said lurking.... ;D
Here's a reply I received from above mentioned person......
QuoteLurking has such an unsavory connotation. I'd prefer "surreptitiously monitoring data transmissions".
LOL!!!!
;D
QuoteKane Lasky was unbeleivebly fast a couple of years ago, then took a break. I notice he's back this year, I haven't seen him race.
Yeah, Kane is entering most all the races in a weekend and winning almost all of them, against the likes of Moore and Ledesma, and fast ASMA guys like Shreve or Mathaison. That is when he doesn't loop out his ZX-10 down the front straight with a mutiple-second lead on the second or third lap of a race...(oops...did I type that out loud?)
-z.
You know, I nearly think you did :)
Organizations don't make racers.
Racers are racers. They are not owned by organizations.
There were lots of names tossed around of some fast guys. And many did AMA PRO stuff before. Mike Smith was a factory rider with Honda in the early 90's. Jensen was an AMA regular, before giving up on it and racing for contingency money and then going back to the AMA.
He races WERA and CMRA stuff. Conrad was an AMA Pro National Champion. Key was an AMA Pro regular on 250's. Denning has had AMA offers, but he makes more money chasing contingency.
AMA? Just a matter of getting enough points to buy the license and you go forward from there. You're probably gonna need money unless someone you know has money to support you. The AMA is "the show".
joe gill is fast and boyd is as well.
CRA used to do a performance-indexed exhibition race for charity with multiple classes that got all the fast guys from the lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight classes into the same race.
Basically, they took the top 5 finishers from the three major trophy dash (equivalent of GT races for CCS) events and figured out the average lap times for each class winner. Each of the three waves would be started off (slowest to fastest) with timed gaps between them so that, theoretically, all three classes would reach the finish line at the end of the race at about the same time.
Those races were cool. Just imagine Ed Key clicking off his best laps on his SV, knowing that, say, Brian Hall and Dave Ebben were closing in on their 600 and 750 bikes.
I think it would be cool to try for the Wegman Weekend...
one time i won a race in ccs ;D
that performance index race sounds pretty cool
That sounds like the framstead cup in CRA.
yep, that would be the Framstead Cup.
Yeah, that's it. I couldn't remember the name. And I haven't raced CRA since 2001. Do they still do it?
I mentioned the idea of having a race like this to Bill F. once and he dismissed it due to his concern over closing speeds. I've never raced a 750 or 1000, but at Blackhawk, I'm not sure it would be a big issue. Especially since the riders on faster bikes would know they were running up on slower bikes.
yep, we still have it. last year it was the July weekend at BIR.
you want to talk closing speeds? try the CRA endurance. ultralight and unlimiteds on the track at the same time, for 5 hours and a 4700ft front straight. ;D

Yep. I've done the CRA 5-Hour on a GS500. And a 600 Superbike. Big time differences in speed. But a really fun race...
One year some guys from Polaris entered a Victory. That thing needed a slow moving vehicle triangle!

they ran that in 2003 and 2004. i swear i lapped that thin every 3 laps, and we weren't even pushing very hard.
the last few years, the ultralight guys have been required to wear the orange new rider shirts so the faster bikes knew who they were closing in on.
eric wood
jeff wood
scott greenwood
lol if theres wood, the race is hard
Quotelol if theres wood, the race is hard
You silly, round eye...
Maybe that Jesse guy has won a race or two...
Most of the fast guys are also AMA regulars like Nicky Moore, Scott Jensen, Mark Ledesma, Chad Rolland (21st at Sears in supersport), Robert Jensen, any of the Woods, Scott Greenwood, Himmelsbach, Tristan Schoenwald, etc.
There's also a bunch of fast guys that don't race AMA like Lasky, AJ Amman, Dale Kiefer, etc
and thats just out west...
How bout Larry Denning. Chasin the contingency $$ Scott Harwell?
R. Jensen, Wood brots, G. May have been mentioned..
M. Smith would be cherry picking CCS since he was a former factory rider :D
Trey Yonce has my vote. 3rd year expert and flying.
