So, I crash at Road America and had to scratch one race Saturday and two Sunday. Right side case cover caved as the bike went off Canada Corner and mushed the tranny.
Now my wife is mad at me since I was gone all RA weekend and have spent every night and all last weekend tearing apart and rebuilding bike to be ready to leave again this weekend to BFR. (Uh, plus I spent a LOT of money)
At least I got the experience of removing the engine, it was fun.
ANYWAY, anyone know what the procedure is for my refund? Does CCS keep a credit on file and subtract it from my next registration, do they send me a coupon, does it happen right away, or take a while?
Not in any big rush, just wondering what to expect.

Did you notify them at the track? I thought you had to let them know before the next day if you weren't going to be able to race. I'm not sure about all that though. I think it is in the rulebook on their site too.
I was under the impression that once you paid for the races it was your responsibility to make them.. I assumed that means if you dont hear your call to grid or you crash you are out of luck ? I hope I am wrong. Let me know.
You have to notify them at the track, after the crash/mishap, that you will not be racing anymore for the weekend. Track reg. workers then begin the credit procedure which takes anywhere from 2 wks 'til.... There's more specific stuff in the rulebook.

3.4.1 Entry Procedures
E. CCS-Cancellations of any classes during an event by riders who have
been through tech inspection and who suffer crash damage, mechanical
failures, or personal injuries which prevent their continued participation
in the events in which they are entered, must be made in writing prior to
the start of racing on the day the entry is scheduled to run. Provided that the
cancellation is not for a Òsold outÓ race, this will result in refunds in the form
of entry credits equal to $35.00 per canceled CCS entry. In all cases the
first entry for that day will be forfeited. If the canceled entry is in a
Òsold outÓ race, there is no financial relief. No refunds will be issued at
the track. RiderÕs copy of the entry form must be attached to the
Request for Credit form to process thi request.
I did go to registration and fill out the forms on Saturday afternoon. I missed one race Saturday and two on Sunday. Looks like I lose the Saturday race as I didn't cancel before racing started for the day. I also lose the first race on Sunday because you forfeit your first entry of the day, and will end up with a whopping $35 credit for the second race sunday.
...dang I wish I hadn't crashed!
Typically the race entries are the least of the financial losses in a crash where you can't continue..

-probably should buy new bodywork but instead got a fiberglass repair kit for that fancy "be careful, I crash" look
$500 my wife spent shopping 'cause I was in the garage all weekend.
Plus 1,234,239,304 hours of my own labor.
But, on the brite side, after taking the entire bike apart and re-assembling it, I had no leftover parts, and I am looking forward to that $35 CCS credit!

But why a new transmission? What happened to the old one?
The bike hit something hard on the right side case cover which I guess pushed the transmission shaft in a touch. That bent all three shift forks and chipped 3rd and fourth gears. Also broke the clutch basket while it was at it.
I was able to find a tranny from a parted out bike on ebay, which was a MUCH cheaper option than Honda!

Because that is what CCS decided to do? How would you handle it?
At one time, after you passed tech you were not entitiled to any refund regardless of failure or crash. If you did not send CCS a letter saying you were not going to be able to make an event, you would get no refund of any pre entries.

Exactly. This was my situation at Summit last weekend and that is what I will get back - $35. It's better than nothing though. I had a similar experience last year (mechanical not a crash) and didn't get the $35 for several months.
