Title: Sad Day at RA....ok not soo sad, but still
Post by: Chuck on April 25, 2005, 11:03:25 AM
I was watching some friends race out the last races of the day on Saturday and realized I left the gas switch on to my pit bike and it drained all the gas...I was a mile from my pit area so I left it there to get gas and pick it up later that evening...it was gone.

Yes it was my little, annoying, loud pocket bike.  Silver with blue billett pegs, an IP2 pipe, damper and new motor to boot.  The body was rough but man it ran great...if anyone knows anything please let me know.

I was spectating the exit of the old Toyota Bridge and left the bike 2ft in the woods along the path back to the pits.

Did you check with the Road America Staff to see if anyone turned it in?

Dude, that sux! If anyone nabbed it, it was probably a spectator. Road A is the only place we lock the car religiously. Let us know if you get it back.

Somone made an announcement at the riders meeting about it, and I did contact RA Security and staff...nothing came up on Sunday  >:(

I would have NEVER expected that to happen, and I do agree that it had to be a spectator.

I'll keep you posted on if I hear anything.

QuoteSomone made an announcement at the riders meeting about it,

So did someone announce that they found it?  If so, check with Bill (the race director) to see if he has any further info.

Somone made the announcement that it was stolen, not that it was found.  I checked with CCS and RA all day and came up empty handed.

Wierd. I always leave the truck unlocked and keys in all the pit bikes and I have for years. Hopefully it was just "misplaced" for a while.

Really? I haven't heard of or personally had any problems at RA. What's the scoop Alexa? Anybody else have theft problems at RA?

It's my assumption that Road A gets the highest spectator count, as it's a RA spectator event. I'm just cautious as I usually have other people's leathers in my vehicle. Why tempt fate? Insurance claims or not, the rider would still have to purchase a new set of leathers if they were stolen, and I feel a responsiblilty to protect my customer's property.

For the record, the theft rate at race events has traditionally been very low. We want more spectators, and this is part of the "bad" that will come of opening up and expanding the sport. When you have a closed group of racers, there is a much lower incidence of crime, but spectators don't necessarily know us, so they might find some of our bright shiney toys attractive enough to take home.

It's all good. I welcome spectators with open arms, I want the sport to GROW. It can only grow if people know about it.

I'll forget about the pocket bike if we can get some people in the stands...seriously.

That sucks, Chuck...(hee hee - that phrase is funny!)  I hope it does find it's way back to you.   I'd like to think other racers wouldn't take it.

There were quite a few spectators Sunday, I didn't notice on Saturday as I didn't leave the pits.  My grandma and grandpa camped all weekend and had a great time.  Besides Stumpy, they like watching Ed Key best!

Anyway, I'll ask my grandma if she took your bike.   ;)

Chuck,

I do remember an announcement over the Staff radio frequency Sunday afternoon stating that they had checked with all the RA Track staff and no one had info on locating your bike.  They then asked someone to check with you (Grant maybe?) to see if you wanted the track to contact the local authorities to file a theft report.  I didn't speak with Grant after that to ask if he got ahold of you.  I took a quick loop around the south end of the pits to see if I could find you, without luck (you were pitted with Kevin Clark weren't you?)

Any chance someone from Motard event picked it up?

Let me know if I can help you get in contact with anyone from CCS on this.

Rick

Thanks Rick...I hadn't thought about the Motard Group over there.  You couldn't see the dirt races from where I was at so I couldn't imagine someone from over there coming across it but thanks for thinking outside the box.  I was probably hiding from the cold in the Hall's Trailor when you came by, seems like I spent more time indoors than outdoors this weekend.  :-/

I had a scooter stolen at RA 2 years ago.  They found it wedged behind someones trailer.

It was taken at night.

Rich and I filed a report with RA's lost and found... if they find anything out we put your cell number down on the paper.  They will call you.

Sorry man !  I feel like I jinxed you this weekend...   :(

No Jinxing going on, just a stroke of bad luck this weekend is all...
