Suddenly, I feel less unhappy about staying home. I've been there and done that for too many Road A weekends. The worst part is that this has been the nicest spring I can remember. Maybe it's just a CCS at RA thing.....
Friday: Occasional showers, with increasing winds by the afternoon. High 48F. Winds NNE at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 60%.
Friday night: Periods of rain and snow showers this evening tapering to snow showers overnight. Windy. Low around 30F. Winds N at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of precip 60%. A slushy accumulation less than one inch.
Saturday: Windy with a few clouds from time to time. High 46F. Winds N at 25 to 35 mph.
Saturday night: Clear to partly cloudy skies. Low 29F. Winds NNW at 10 to 20 mph.
Sunday (24 hours): More clouds than sun. Highs in the upper 40s and lows in the mid 30s.
i'm still going to head out there in an hour or so. good weather to drink alot of beer in, since i've never been there and am only wrenching/hanging out. ;D
I'm so glad I didn't pre register.
Nothing like cold tires, wet pavement, tar sealer, wet leathers, wet helmet, wet feet and 30 mph winds.
that sounds like a ride in the ambulance if I've ever heard of one
Now if I was getting paid to race, it would be a different story, nice big 750 thousand dollar race rig to stay warm in, dry bike, but I have to work Monday morning.
Im with ya K3 , I was bummed about not going till i saw the weather today.
On another note, i just ate lunch downtown. Theres StarWars Celebration III going on this weekend. Theres an estimated 30,000 fan(atic)s walking around. A bunch of them are all dressed up as storm troopers, darth vader, jedi, all kinds of stuff.
Glad i'm not racing there this weekend, never really understood why ccs races at RA in early spring. Hell, its still winter up there. :-/ Hopefully its all sunshine and 70's at summit next weekend. 8)
Whoa! You know who must have had access to the long-range forecast. ::)
I'll bet that's why he decided not to go or turned around during the trip out there :-X ;)
QuoteA bunch of them are all dressed up as storm troopers, darth vader, jedi, all kinds of stuff.
I'll bet that a girl derssed up (at least to start with) as Princess Lia could make a huge stack of dollar bills at Rio this weekend! ;)
Quotenever really understood why ccs races at RA in early spring. Hell, its still winter up there.
The problem is that Road America is incredibly expensive to rent. They get a better deal in April than they would in June, July, or August. From what I've heard, even with twin sprints, FUSA, and race fees as high as Daytona, it's still tough for CCS to make a profit for that weekend.
They gave up on the summer race at Road A. I was told that a big part of the problem was the track's unwillingness to split the gate with CCS. We were pulling a bunch of spectators, but without a share of the gate, CCS couldn't pay the track rent and still break even. Sad, really. I guess this is the only way that CCS can offer us the opportunity to race there.

Been there, wrecked that, healed, rebuilt. Been there....

Just think those are the people who used to get beat up for lunch money in school. ;D
God I hate Star Warts. ;D ;D ;D
Well, the weather didn't suck as bad as it was supposed to. All the rain stayed to the south. There were a few sprinkles that landed in the GT lights race, but other than that it was mostly chilly.
It's supposed to be crappy tomorrow. We'll see. Maybe the racing gods aren't as angry this year. Not co-operating exactly, but letting up just a little... ;)

Shoot, we don't even have snow tires for the grocery getter much less snows for the RC!? :)

When did you get a RC Todd? ;D
BTW are you guys back to work yet or are they still working on the plant? I seen a bunch of cars there the other day like it was normal schedule.
Kim called me tonight. She said 22 degree wind chill and horizontal snow as she helped Cindi flag from the bridge. I'm so glad I didn't go, but when she called, I still wanted to be there.... :-/

Theres still a ton more people there than there is at a NESBA weekend in august ? NESBA seems to make it work.
I wonder how many people actually showed up?
QuoteI wonder how many people actually showed up?
Looks to me like slightly more than would be at Gateway. ::)

Yes, it's frickin cold.
I left Texas during a very strange weather day (less than 60 degrees). The next day at home it was gorgeous. I get here, it's getting colder by the minute. I didn't bring a jacket, given the earlier forcasts of the weekend. I'm indoors and shivering. People are walking around with frozen snot in their noses. I saw SNOW--SIDEWAYS! I had ice on my car! In APRIL! My gosh, it's SUMMER back home! Everyone's in shorts! I don't know how you guys survive it.
Oh, well, 6am flight tomorrow. I get to see Maddie in 20 hours and counting!
Quote I don't know how you guys survive it.
We don't have to deal with a 100+ temperatures all summer long... ;D
Actually, today (Sunday) turned out pretty nice, especially compared to Friday and Saturday. It started out cold and windy. Then the sun came out and the temps rose into the 50s. Still very windy, but not bad racing weather.
Tiff, welcome to Wisconsin...8 months of winter and 4 months of bad ice fishing.

As soon as I saw that the weather was going down hill I called to warn you but apparently you must have not gotten the voice mail message, oh well I tried! :)
Sunday by noon was definately tolerable compared to the other 2 days as Paul said, and by late afternoon traction seemed pretty good as well. I think for me the freakiest thing was getting slammed by some of those strong wind gusts from the side as I was cornering, I had one particularly strong gust almost blow me off the track at the exit of 7 and another push me wide at the exit of the carousel.
All and all I don't remember very many red flags over the course of the 3 days, heck there were even middle weight races that didn't have red flags! ;) Even though the weather was a bit chilly and I was riding overly cautious, I'm still glad I went. :)
(I still wish it was during better weather though! ;) ;D)
I went... I raced... I had a blast! I did well too! I was really glad I went. Weather? Since when has the weather cooperated with the R/A weekend?
I ran 10 races all together this weekend. Here is how I placed....
Took 1st place 3 times, a 2nd, a 3rd, 4th three times and 5th twice.
10 races... Wood in all! I couldnt have dreamed I would have done so well! I am a happy Buell boy!
It was really good to see most everyone again! It was a long winter.
"Game on!" ... Mark! ;)
Y'all are a bunch of pansys. :o It was typical Wisconsin weather, wait 15 minutes, and it will change. We saw some guys walking around in a a tee shirt and no jacket. Now there's a real man. It didn't snow, it flurried. Snow involves accumulation on the ground. :P It was sunny Sunday, and if there wouldn't have been wind, it would have been a perfect spring day. I have sunburn fercrissake.
Seriously though, considering the conditions, it was a great weekend. Most everyone managed to keep it upright knowing that the tires were never going to fully warm up, the cornerworking staff deserve a big thumbs up for staying out there all day, every day. And yes, the folks on the bridge deserve a medal for putting up with the wind in their faces all weekend! Cindy had to use 2 hands to flag as the wind would drive the flag horizontal! Thanks to Rob and the Lithium crew for allowing us to warm up. They should have had blow up palm trees in their pits, it was positively balmy in there! :D
As cold as it was, I found the grip to be awsome. (Dunlops with secret tire pressure settings ;D) Got wood 3 out of 5 and had a blast. F40 had almost 40 bikes in it! 30 of them were parked in turn 5 on the firts lap of race 2. :o
K3, your a pansy! :P ;D

I am now officially a spoiled, pampered princess. I swear, I do not remember where I came from!
Heather ;)
Ya'll are lucky!!!
I chose to attend the WERA opener at Beaverun this as opposed to RA. Saturday was Rain and 38. About 9:00pm it started snowing and it didn't stop until after everyone had packed up and left for home AFTER the race on sunday. You guessed it, about 1/2 white blanket on the ground and still snowing and 20mph winds.
It was simply amazing to see how well rain tires stuck in that weather. I can tell you this much, RA would have been a better choice, but this WERA weekend was something to be seen!!! See Ya'll at Autobahn!!!
QuoteK3, your a pansy! :P ;D
Sounds like I might have been at the bottom of the F40 pile if I'd gone. That wouldn't have been good....
Hey! I thought the old guys were supposed to be more careful?
I'm done. >:( :(
Crap weather and RA wouldn't let us have electric and it's $50 for a camping fee! ??? CCS needs to pick a date in late May, July, August or even early September. Every year sucks up there. Where's the spectators at? The 5 or 6 friends I had coming up all looked at the forecast and said no way, have fun. There isn't one positive about this time of year of that track. :-[ I'm going to miss it but I'm done done done!!!!!!!!!
Problem besides cost would be getting a better date. RA is booked everyday, 7 days a week during June, July, and August. Didn't ask about May or September.
QuoteF40 had almost 40 bikes in it! 30 of them were parked in turn 5 on the firts lap of race 2. :o
I'm glad that was behind me. I must have passed 20 bikes going into turn 1. That was an awsome race!

How many years until you're into double digits as a YPSB? ;D
As far as booking other dates fro RA..... I talked with Carson from the Track Safety Crew and he said they have a grand total of 3 days that the track isn't booked from now until October - and all 3 of those days are this week!!!
Too bad we couldn't have gotten a booking for a week earlier - it was in the 80's then!
You deal with what you're given .....
- no electricity? that's a problem at a number of tracks.
- $50 camping fee? you can't even camp at Putnam!
- cold weather? I stood out in the cold all day - no complaints here. I checked the forecast before I left home and packed accordingly. That's kind of like complaining that it will be hot and humid at Barber in August..... DUH!!
QuoteHow many years until you're into double digits as a YPSB? ;D
That would be 4.
I officially pass the torch. (Though I shouldn't of had it in the first place. ;D)

Theres a torch? And where is this torch you speek of? ??? I sure could have used it Saturday morning! I feel kind of jipped now. :-/ ;)

I didn't say that ... you did! :-X But ask Kevin about turn 1 in the Saturday L/W F-40 race. Thats all Im saying. ;) ;D
