Title: Buying a new trailer
Post by: Lowe119 on April 20, 2005, 08:16:56 AM
It seems like I'm getting an alright deal, but I'd like y'all's thoughts.

I'm planning on getting an Interstate 6x10 and they're asking $2,450. Here are the features:

Torflex 10 Degree Drop Axles
EZ Lube Hubs with Grease Caps
15" Radial Tires
E-Coated & Powder-Coated White Wheels
Double Rear Doors
Semi-Style Camlock Door Latches
LED Tail Lights
Door Hold Backs on all Doors
Aluminum Fenders
Welded Safety Chains
Undercarriage Sealed with Undercoating
.030 Beveled Aluminum Exterior Panels (Black)
GVWR: 2,990 lbs.
Payload: 1,150-1,880 lbs.
3/4 inch Plywood Floors, 3/8 inch Plywood Walls
4-Way Flat Connector
2" Lock Ball Coupler
D.O.T Safety Chains with Hooks
D.O.T Exterior Lighting & Reflectors
Crimped Aluminum Exterior Seams

Think I should ask for a little more off or is this a good deal?

Have you checked with Don (Dylanfan53)?

He has an '02 6 x 10 that he's asking $1800 for.

Even if his isn't what you're looking for he might have info on he would do differently on a new trailer.

You'll probably want at least one interior light and a roof vent.

Also, if I read that correctly you're looking at barn doors?  That would mean you'd need to haul a ramp too.  I have a sportchock bolted to the floor and ride right in the ramp door.  Two easy tie downs and it's good to go.  Takes about 30 seconds.

The only reason I'm selling is that I happened to go by the lot and I know the guy that owns the place.  I've bought a few trailers from him and in the past he's put mine on the lot to sell for me.  If it sells, I'll pick up a new one from him at a good deal. If not, I'll use it again this summer. No big deal one way or the other.

BTW, I think the price you quoted is about retail for that size.
Title: Menards trailers

I'd probably buy yours, but I am too lazy to drive that far and I'm putting this on credit because I won't have the money for another month or so.

Okay - so Farm and Fleet and Menards have 6x12s with drop-down doors for $2,600. Their only downfall seems to be that it has leaf springs instead of torsion.  So I get 2 more feet of room and a drop down door for $150 more, but I get the lesser suspension.

The 6x12 without the drop down door and WITH the torsion is $2,750.

So is torsion suspension REALLY worth the extra money?  :-/  I'd REALLY like that drop down door too.

Last year I bought a new 6x12 United with cable-assist ramp rear door, 15 inch wheels, diamond plate chip guard in front etc. in Elkhart, IN for $1,959.

Don't know where you are but I will get the name of the place if you like...
