They will host races, people will attend... Regardless of how many promotional activities they do, when an organization hosts a race, racers (even the ones who b1tch about it) will attend...
Who is a serious player out there in the old West?
The problem is AFM, WSMC, and WERA all have series out in California. Why would they give out promotional stuff for an area where they have no races?
This is an OLD topic, re-hashed it will have the same outcome! We (out here in the Old West) told by none other than Kevin Elliot that the cost of the tracks and staffing and so on was not economically positive for Clear Channel.
If I recall, he threw a figure out of $100K for the buget, and was challenged by that figure.
I am a realist, some may view this as harsh or insensitive but I give a S$#t!
We asked straight out at the last race held at Firebird for Pacific and Southwest if the rumor was true about the Pacific Region going away, the question was sidestepped for a better way of putting it.
If the organization can't step up to the plate to turn a profit, then it just aint gonna happen!!!
The failure is the same I as I stated before when this topic came up; BAD PLANNING, BAD MARKETING, etc.
Racers will show up if the organizers show up, maybe not in the numbers that we see in the MW and FL, but in numbers that we all thought worked. We were wrong.
I remember that Matt had broken the entries down and so did Ray; there are a lot of us who enter more than 3 or 4 races. Like I said, we thought the numbers made sense.

Let's see, give the racer's a discount if they will do some ground work to promote CCS? Why didn't Pacific/Southwest think about this in 2003-2004, could this have worked out here? I don't know, I just know racing.

You know, if a few of us get together and throw a little money, time, and organization at this problem, maybe WE could be the new affiliate!! ;D
We should all talk over this at dinner in Vegas next weekend. Next year will come fast, so if you or anyone else is interested, let's get moving!! I am filled with promotional ideas! ::)
You know there will be a SW region next year, so if we organize a West Region, we could pair up with SW for 2 or 3 combined races. A couple more at Thunderhill, 2 or 3 each at Buttonwillow and Streets, plus maybe a race at the big track at Willow, Fontana, Reno, and/or Vegas. Plus, there are 3 tracks at Firebird. Think about it. ;D

Firebird Main is fun, and worth racing, and there are people who like both East and West.
