Cheesy oil catch?

Thinking of running my WERA-legal bike in a CCS event in New Jersey. Since there's no aftermarket belly pan available for my bike, I've been using a foil turkey pan inside the fairing for an oil catch, which WERA allows. All I could find in the rules mentioned methods of attachment. Is there a chance in hell of this passing tech? See attached

LOL- I'm pretty sure I just heard the sound of a can of worms open...

No- not at all!  Get ahold of Mark storck from RRP (ROAD RACE PREP)  (he's here on the CCS forums) Those guys make custom catch pans to fit your bike, and it won't break the bank.  CCS (from memory) requires a "professional" quality oild retention pan....it's ambiguous at best, but from hearing various stories from racers- the turkey pan doesn't pass tech.

Hopefully Burt or Kevin will chime in here with a more official response.

I never used to be to concerned about my body work.  As long as there were no major cracks and it was held on decent.  That all changed after racing at VIR in september.  Somebodys belly pan came flying off right after the kink and was about 40 ft in the air.  When it came down it nearly hit the guy next to me.  Hitting that flat out in 6th wouldn't be to much fun.  Now i take alittle extra time making sure that everything is kosher.

My bellypan came off in a trackday in 2008. I was just coming around turn 4 at Loudon when it broke off and I ran it over flipping it into the air. Fortunately, it didn't cause anyone else any harm. I didn't know what happened until I was in the pits and walked away from my bike then walked back to it.

All I felt when it happened is something hit my left foot, and the back end shimmy a little. I revised my mounting points after that.

Back in the 90's I witnessed a friends side fairing fly off his F2 while he was racing someone (100+ MPH), that thing flew above the trees lining the road (over 40 ft.) then smashed down onto the pavement out in front of me  :wtf: - that made me very cautious about things being attached to my own bikes.

In the mid 90's at Firebird, my buddy's exhaust can flew off his Hawk GT at the end of the straight, right before the (old) chicane.  He was far left on the track- I was left center, about 20 yards behind.  All I remember was thinking, as I slowed for the chicane, "Was that an exhaust can that almost hit me?!?!?" Literally missed it by inches.

I knew it was his as I passed him in the carousel, and his Hawk sounded like Fat Albert after eating @ White Castles.  :thumb:
