Hi
Being one of the many who have never been to Firebird I have contacted local trackday organizers to see if they are interested in hosting a trackday on the 14th before the race weekend. So far none have expressed any interest but if I can get some idea of how many are interested I can contact the trackdirectly and see if we can arrange something.
Bring back the LP Sport Rider Days!!!!!
Simon
We have three riders in our pit who plan on practicing at Firebird on March 14. We would preregister for it if given the opportunity. At Streets of Willow last month, we found that lots of racers showed up on Friday expecting things to be just like last year, so they didn't preregister for practice. Kelly Baker Performance Unlimited sponsored the track day and had way more than the minimum that he needed. ::)
If a track day was offered on Friday, both my husband and I would go.
Hi Simon,
Yes, yes, yes! ;D
Count me in and I know of 2 other racers that would be interested in a Friday track day. (Poll didn't work for me)
Most definately!
If there is a track day my brother and I will go. I know of at least 4 to 5 people from Southern Cali that will show up too...
Well, I contacted the track and they told me that CCS have booked the track on the 14th. I have left a couple of messages for Chris Wallace at CCS (the contact given to me by the track) to try and find out what is happening but to no avail.
I haven't given up yet!!
Ah, a glimmer of hope perhaps?
What a sleuth that SlowDragon is. ;)
Rock on Slow Dragon!
It's seems like, to get anything done with CCS, you have to do it yourself. :-/
Still trying to find out the final schedule for the Southwest region. There are some conflicting dates for Las Vegas. Once again, someone else found out that CCS rented the track for May 10-11, so the assumption is we'll be racing that weekend, although CCS won't tell us and we still don't know about the Aug dates.... ???
First off, me and a few other guys would attend the March 14th trackday if there is one....count that as 5 riders.
Patrick, I emailed David Stetzer at the LVMS and he told me:
Brian,
You got it that time! Clear Channel has the track reserved on May 10-11. The
only track time available would be through the Freddie Spencer Riding
School. We used to open the track for testing back in 1999 and 2000, but
there were so few people participating we had to stop. You can reach Freddie
Spencer's school at 702-643-1099.
Hope that helps.
Yep, would definately show up for that.
Ah, the saga continues.
I spoke to the track again and they said that they have a contract with CCS for March 14th-16th. The contracts guy at CCS put me in touch with Kevin Elliot who confirmed that they do not have the track on the 14th so a discussion between Firebird and CCS seems to be in order :o
So, I asked the track that if/when CCS confirm they are not using the track could we rent it and the answer is yes!!! Except, we need to have a $ 5 million liability insurance policy, it's too short notice for them to organize cornerworkers and they're not sure about the medical/safety crew. Mmmmmm.... >:(
OK, now I admit this is becoming a challenge. The track have suggested that I contact a local track day organizer (again) which I have. If they are still not interested how about we have a whip-round for the required $ 5 million?
Bring back the LP Sport Rider DAY :P
I will keep you all posted.
Simon
Appreciate the legwork Simon. Want me to send you a blank check to cover the $5mil.? ;D
Please CCS bring back the track day on Friday. If there is going to be a track day on Friday at Firebird someone let me know I will go.
Thanks
Garth
Further 'progress'.
One of the local trackday organizers is interested in taking on hosting the event if we can get 50 riders signed up for 150 or less riders more $$$ each.
So far this illustrious poll has gathered the interest of 10, yes 10!!!, people. I am personally dragging another couple of people along so could I ask that anyone who is interested and has not yet voted please do so.
I am hoping that the CCS/Firebird discussion takes place on Monday and we should get the go-ahead to rent the track on the 14th.
I'm annoying the residents around Laguna Seca on Tuesday so I'll give it until 9pm Pacific on Wednesday to see how much interest there really is. At that time the party of 10 can either have a very exclusive, very expensive trackday or we (I) admit defeat.
Bring back the LP Sport Rider DAYS
Sorry, that should have been 50 riders for $ 150 each or less riders for more than $ 150 each.
Based on the number of people estimated in the replies, you're up to 24. I think that not everyone votes on the poll, or can't get it to work. Plus, a few know of 4 to 5 others that would be interested, so they probably don't click on the poll another 4 to 5 times (I know I didn't). But this is a good thing...the more we get the better. :)
I know of 4-5 people that are interested, but I didn't answer in the poll 4-5 times.
I get this everytime I try to vote:
An Error Has Occured!
An error occured with this poll and the vote could not be counted. Sorry for the inconvinience.
So, you have one for me, plus two others that are interested (that won't show up in the poll)...
If we practice Friday by some stroke of luck would we be able to set up camp and leave it for the weekend also? I'm sure some people would pay just to be able to do that...
Once again, appreciate all the legwork SlowDragon. Looking forward to dicing it out with you too! ;D

Oh, are we racing in the same classes again? I should have mentioned that this trackday will not be for any amateurs running in SuperTwins, HW Superbike/Sport, GTO or Unlimited GP ;D
Everyone else is more than welcome.
You heading to Laguna tomorrow by any chance? Weather looks pretty dismal so the track should offer its usual lack of grip in the morning. I don't think I'll be able to make Buttonwillow on Monday as my quota of vouchers from my better half and the kids are running sort of low :P

DOH! :o Hehe....next thing ya know, you'll be charging extra for people running those classes. ;D
Nah, no go on Laguna. Just bought some new rotors, so that has effectively sapped my track day money for the rest of the month. Doing BW on the 10th, and then Pahrump on the 4/12. Can't wait to do that one.
Well, defeat has been snatched from the jaws of victory.
After finding another 10 people who were interested in the trackday from another source it looked promising until the company I was talking to about hosting it (and providing the insurance cover) found that they had a clash with another event they are doing.
So, I'm giving up. See you all at the LP Sport Rider morning :P
:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Oh well, you tried. Appreciate it man. When are you heading down?
Thanks again for contacting everyone and trying to make it happen. Too bad it didn't work out.
Hey, maybe we'll see each other out there. I'll be on a really loud yellow MZ. Stop by and say "hi". :)
SlowDragon, thanks for trying to put this together. Bill Matt & I were all for the trackday, damn...
We'll see ya out there Sat morning, bright and early!
I have found another trackday promoter who is willing to see if he can organize something for the 14th depending on the availability of his cornerworkers and the track.
So, watch this space.......
For all those that were interested in the trackday on March 14th at Firebird :
Mark at TEAM Arizona is working with the track on getting us the practice day. To make it a go we need to contact TEAM with the following details NO LATER THAN 4pm PACIFIC on Tuesday 11th March :
Name, Address, Email
Credit card details
These can be emailed to info@motorcycletraining.com or by calling TEAM at 480-998-9888.
We need a minimum of 30 riders at $ 175 to make it a go. Mark will not charge anyone's credit card until the magic 30 number has been reached.
So, it's up to you guys to contact Mark and make this happen.
Regards
Simon
Here is the quote from Mark. I will be there to help T.E.A.M. Arizona run the show.
QuoteT.E.A.M. Arizona has been asked to put on a racers' practice day at Firebird East on March 14. Assuming the track is available, apparently CCS bailed and did not tell anyone, and there are enough interested racers, we'll do the day.
Participant fee will be $175 (sorry, we were not able to set up in advance) and you need to contact me on Monday. I have to let Firebird know if we are going to take the track or they'll let some car guys have the day.
I can be reached at T.E.A.M. Arizona at (480) 998-9888, or at the office at: info@motorcycletraining.com. You can e-mail your name, address, and a M/C or Visa number and that will hold your spot. I will not run any charges until I know, for sure, that we will have the date. If you e-mail a credit card number. Put the card number in one message and the expire date in a second message. Or, just use the phone on Monday.
Mark
Thanks for all of your hard work, guys! Ten Horse Construction's race team will be there for practice on Friday. I will e-mail our info today! :D :D
FYI... I've done 4, maybe 5 track days with the crew at TEAM Arizona. They're a good bunch of guys and put on a class track day... although Mongrel is questionable ;D ;D
:patrick
See you Friday! (Come on 28 more people...)
Hey! You guys might want to contact whomever it is that you talk to at CCS and let them know that TEAM Arizona is going to sponsor the track day. Kevin Elliot just e-mailed an AZ friend of ours this morning that there will be no track day practice at Firebird. He didn't say that someone else was going to run it, he said that there wouldn't be one at all! I know that when Kelly Baker Performance sponsored the track day for Streets of Willow that the gals who answer the phone at the CCS main office were very good about passing along the info - maybe we need to let them know. :-/
We'll tell everyone we know here in the Las Vegas area. See you this weekend!
Come on guys. We're only at 5 people so far!!!!
Call Mark!
I've also emailed the CCS guys to let them know that this is happening
I am driving two other CCS competitors that are interested in racing that weekend and having practice on Friday.
Mike
Hi Mike
Can you please call Mark and let him know.
Cheers
Simon
I'm signed up.
If anybody wants to do this, you need to call Mark at TEAM Arizona (480) 998-9888 so he can get a head count. He needs 30 by tomorrow...
I signed up at around 9:30am on 3-11-03, Mark said I was only #10. They need more people. Call him, sign up. Do it now!
The trackday is ON. Just show up on Friday if you have not signed up yet.

Kinda funny how aztrackday.com (the "company") says they have a clash with another event, but there's nothing listed on their website for that day, or even that weekend. See for yourself:
http://www.aztrackday.com/events.asp
My guess is that they changed their mind when they realized they may not make much money off of it....
Thanks to TEAM Arizona for coming through!
