have any of you made your own exhaust hoops..

not the hangers that mount to the bike, but the hoops that go around the cans and then attach to the hangers...?

if so what material did u use inside of the straps?

how hot (temps?) do the cans get

thanks

Super Dave

I never have.  Usually they are supplied by the can manufacturer.

An exhaust can gets hot, more than 150 degrees, I know that 'cause it can burn you.  But I haven't put a guage on it to check.

Some kind of strap steel or aluminum would work.

i was wondering about what kind of padding material to use between the strap and the can???

i am leary of just using the strap w/out protection of some kind..   i dont want to wear a hole in the can from vibration or exhaust movement....

i've googled and googled and no luck....   straps that were with the exhaust are somewhere in the weeds!!   never to be seen from again...

any thoughts would be appreciated...

thanks

My Micron just has rubber.  Others use different materials.

Might try viton or silicone rubber (www.mcmaster.com)

Thingy

When I destroyed my carbon fiber one, I made one out of a strap of kevlar.  I looked like a regular nylon strap, but made of kevlar.  The only hard part was putting holes on each end that the bolt would go through.  I used a washer on each side when I bolted it up.

I will answer that one, he's in the manufacturing trade like myself so he's well aware of the motherload of suppliers like that available to industry. There are many more suppliers out there as well, but McMasters is certainly a major one with alot of variety.

Kinda like a manufacturer's hardware store. McMaster, Grainger, MSC are a few of the larger ones. McMaster is convenient for people in southern half of Wisconsin and Illinois - ground UPS is the next day, rarely out of stock.

Just use a strip of rubber roofing.  Cheap, easy to get, and should handle the heat just fine.

The rubber roofing I have seen is just neoprene. Neoprene would be marignal - does not handle heat the best. The hanger on my SV is not neoprene, it seems to be a silicone based rubber.
