SV650 gearing for Topeka?

Kinda depends on what you've got for engine and what configuration they run. If they run the fast turn 8 then a stock engine will run out of gear with a 15-46 but if they run the tight left turn 8 the that should be a pretty good starting point for a 2nd gen, if you're first gen you might want to go 45 since they don't like to rev as high.

I'm still waiting for SRAM to come up with a derailleur to handle the power of the SV.

So I'll stick with the stock trans.

Burt, you're going to top out about 30 feet into the front straight (or any other straight for that matter) but since that's about all that chain will be able to handle I guess you'll just have to deal with it. Stay tight to the inside and I'll try to not blow you off the track as I go by.

When will we know what configuration they are going to use?

Not till they know which should be the day after the races. I believe CCS likes the fast turn 2 and the slow turn 8 but sometimes the track has logistical issues like last year when they couldn't get the equipment out to change the barriers due to water logged ground.

I didn't show you my 80 tooth front sprocket!!

With a little tow I figure I can top out at about 107 mph!

Of course I'll need an 8 mile, flat straight and I'll only be able to hold it for about 200 yards!!

I'm hoping to talk to Greg Williams (Race Director) tonight.  I'll ask if he has any info on the configuration.  Both races this year have used the faster turn 1 & 2 and the slower turn 8 & 9.

Burt, You better recheck your math.

That looks like a 12 you got on there, coupled with an 80 big ring my math says the motor makes a BIG BANG followed by lots of whimpering at about 63MPH.  :pop:

Like I said, keep it off to the side and I'll try to not blow you off the track with my whimpy little SV.

Found out today that the July races at HPT will use the same configuration as the April and May races.

2.5 mile course - new turn 1 & 2, old turn 8 & 9.

OK, that is helpful.  Does anybody know if the new turn 1&2 will require dramatically different gearing vs. what could be carried on the old front straight?  Last year at HPT I just used BHF gearing and it was fine.  I am  worried that I may end up a bit undergeared on the new configuration.
