Motorcycle Talk / Japan might fine Harley Davids...

QuoteThe Fair Trade Commission will issue a cease-and-desist order to and fine U.S. motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson's Japanese subsidiary about 200 million yen ($1.4 million) for setting excessive sales quotas on dealers, sources said.

later in the article...

QuoteDealers, placed in a weak position, were effectively forced to purchase the motorcycles themselves. They temporarily registered the bikes under the names of the dealer, its president, or staff, and counted these as sales.

After the dealers purchased the vehicles, the vehicles were considered "registered but unused." The dealers often had no choice but to sell them at discounted prices.

BERGAMO, Italy, Oct. 11, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Brembo today signed an agreement with Tenneco, a portfolio company of funds managed by affiliates of Apollo Global Management, Inc., for the acquisition of a 100% stake in Öhlins Racing, the leading manufacturer of premium, high performance suspension technology for motorcycles and cars in the Original Equipment, Motorsport, and Aftermarket segments.

Matteo_Tiraboschi___Presidente_Esecutivo_di_Brembo.jpg

"Öhlins is a strong fit for Brembo. It is a world-renowned brand, with a solid business and an unrivaled reputation, both on the racetrack and the road," said Matteo Tiraboschi, Brembo Executive Chairman. "We welcome Öhlins to our Group as a great opportunity to expand our offerings for the automotive market. With this addition, we take another step forward in our strategy to provide integrated intelligent solutions to our customers, leveraging synergies across key technologies in the vehicle's corner."

Founded in 1976, Öhlins Racing is based in Upplands Väsby (Stockholm), Sweden, and has a strong international footprint. Öhlins employs approximately 500 people across two production facilities located in Sweden and Thailand, two R&D centers in Sweden and Thailand, and four distribution and testing branches in the U.S., Germany, Thailand and Sweden.

Öhlins' suspension technology is renowned for precision, performance, and innovation. With decades of expertise and advanced engineering, Öhlins Racing offers an extensive range of products, including shock absorbers, front forks, steering dampers, software and algorithms, and accessories for the OEM and aftermarket segments. The company also has a strong racing heritage and presence in major motorsport championships, supplying MotoGP, Formula 1, World Superbike, NASCAR, and others. Öhlins Racing is projected to close 2024 with a turnover in the range of USD 144 million, with an expected adjusted EBITDA margin between 21% and 22%.

"We're confident that Brembo is the right partner to take Öhlins Racing to the next level," said Jim Voss, CEO of Tenneco. "This sale not only positions Öhlins and its employees for continued success under Brembo's leadership in the market, but it also supports Tenneco's strategy of streamlining our business portfolio and strengthening our balance sheet as we continue to execute on our long-term vision."

"As we join forces with Brembo, we are excited to unlock new growth opportunities and leverage our respective strengths and assets to drive innovation and deliver even greater value to our customers and employees," said Tom Wittenschlaeger, CEO of Öhlins Racing.

Öhlins Racing is committed to developing the next generation of mechatronic suspension technology for both road and track. This innovation-driven approach will reinforce Brembo's mission to be a Solution Provider for future mobility.

This deal marks the largest acquisition in Brembo's history. The purchase price is USD 405 million, (corresponding to € 370 million at today's exchange rate), on a cash free / debt free basis, subject to customary price adjustment mechanisms. The acquisition will be paid using available cash.

The acquisition is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to close in early 2025.

This acquisition continues Brembo's investment in the motorcycle and motor racing area. In 2021 the Group acquired SBS Friction in Denmark and J.Juan in Spain, completing the offer of braking system solutions dedicated to two-wheelers. In February of this year, Brembo announced its entry into Thailand with a new production site dedicated to braking systems for motorcycle manufacturers. Brembo also controls Marchesini, the leading brand in the design and production of light alloy wheels for racing and road motorcycles.

The two-wheeler business is today worth approximately 13% of Brembo's total revenues.

Motorcycle Talk / Brembo Hits the Big Screen in ...
Last post by Biketographer - June 27, 2025, 11:01:48 AM
BERGAMO, Italy, June 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- In real life, all 10 Formula 1® teams already rely on Brembo's world-class braking systems. Now, another joins the ranks—APXGP, the fictional team at the heart of Apple Original Films' F1® The Movie, the highly anticipated summer event movie from director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and starring Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, and Javier Bardem.

Brembo_front_details_A_F1.jpg

As an official partner of the film, Brembo was chosen to design and supply the braking systems for the F1 car featured in the movie. Filmed during actual F1 Grand Prix weekends, the movie blends real racing with cinematic storytelling. Pitt, Idris and stunt drivers experienced over 4G of deceleration on set—over three times what most drivers feel on the road—thanks to Brembo's state-of-the-art brakes.

In addition to engineering the APXGP car's braking system, Brembo is supporting the film with a co-promotional campaign tied to its 50th anniversary in motorsport. The Italian company entered Formula 1® in 1975 with Ferrari, marking the beginning of a legacy that includes countless victories and championships.

APEX_Feature_FP_00005.jpg

"Teams across motorsport have partnered with Brembo for five decades to deliver precision braking with maximum performance, reliability and safety," said Mauro Piccoli, Brembo's Chief Marketing Officer. "Supplying the APXGP car with Brembo in F1® The Movie was a unique challenge and an honor. There's no part of a vehicle that requires more trust than brakes—and the best trust Brembo: on the road, on the track and now even on screen."

Brembo's participation helps ensure the film captures the intensity and realism of Formula 1® racing. But beyond performance, the brand's involvement brings authenticity—rooted in the same passion and technical rigor it applies to every Grand Prix. Brembo engineers tailored the braking system to the unique demands of the APXGP car, analyzing key factors like weight distribution, tire grip and aerodynamic balance—just as they do with real teams.

What began in a small workshop on the outskirts of Bergamo, Italy, has evolved into a global benchmark in vehicle innovation. Brembo's journey is defined by a constant drive to enhance performance, passion and design—qualities that resonate in both motorsport and filmmaking.

As the lines between real racing and cinematic storytelling blur, Brembo stands at the crossroads of both worlds, delivering trust, technology and thrill. Whether in the heat of a Grand Prix or a high-speed film sequence, Brembo proves once again that brakes may not be the loudest part of a car, but they're the ones you trust the most.

Since its entry into Formula 1® 50 years ago, Brembo has grown to supply brake systems or components to almost every series in motorcycle and car racing. To date, Brembo has helped teams win over 700 championship titles across motorsport and over 500 F1® Grand Prix. Be sure to catch F1® The Movie, in theaters June 25 internationally and June 27 in North America, to see if Brembo can add another win to its name.

Motorcycle Talk / Australian motorcyclists value...
Last post by Biketographer - June 18, 2025, 08:19:48 AM
BRISBANE, Australia, June 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Australian motorcycle owners share a love of the open road, with almost half (47%) saying they take road trips a few times a year or even monthly, a new survey has found.

When asked what essentials they pack, the number one response (65%) was a first aid kit, followed by snacks (55%), a GPS tracker (53%) and a puncture repair kit (52%).

The poll of 1000 Australians from motorbike insurer Budget Direct revealed fewer than half (49%) felt it necessary to pack their camera.

"We know motorbike riders love that feeling of freedom when they're out on the road," a Budget Direct spokesperson said.

"But this survey shows the majority of riders are responsible and take their safety very seriously.

"Even when choosing their route, the number one factor that influenced their decision was the safety of the road."

Nearly 37% of riders checked safety first, ahead of scenery (33%), followed by food and drink (11%) and accommodation (9%) options.

Interestingly, when it comes to where they like to ride, there was a clear favourite, with 47% preferring coastal roads, compared with only 18% in the mountains.

"That was actually something of a surprise to us, because we know some of those magnificent hinterland rides are a real drawcard," said the Budget Direct spokesperson.

The other surprise was that 44% of riders surveyed will embark on their next road trip within the next six months.

Nearly 66% said they enjoy a 'social' ride, instead of purely commuting, and 44% said a trip for pleasure would usually last from two to five hours.

In the all-important battle of the states, Australians said New South Wales (31%) edged out Victoria (28%) and Queensland (17%) as the state with the best motorcycle routes.

"There's no doubt, motorcycles are more than just a means of transport," said a Budget Direct Spokesperson.

"They're a way of life for so many riders and we're happy we play our part in keeping them on the road through our insurance products."
