saying "fu&k" on live tv. laying down in the middle of the track. and calling VIR "rinky dink" on live tv. just three things he did today, much less over his career. complete loser in my book. i hope he gets the rumored heavy fine and suspension. BW

GAMEDIC

You don't think he was laying on the track cause the corner workers did not see the bike?.....as for the other things you are right...but i replayed it where i taped it and they had the yellow out then right before he went out on the track they stoped the yellow...then the red went up when he got on the track..i really think the sign was blocking the view..but as for the other shit he said you are %100 right about it..

News From AMA website:
Suzuki's Aaron Yates may have very well earned himself a huge fine and suspension today in the second re-start of the Superbike race at Virginia International Raceway.

In the race, Yates narrowly missed hitting Kurtis Roberts' crashed Honda RC51, rode off the track and crashed in the dirt.

What followed was an amazingly bizarre incident where Yates got up from the ground and ran to the middle of the track, laying his body spread-eagle on the racing surface, causing the race to be red-flagged.

Kurtis Roberts' Honda then burst into flames.

Afterwards, Yates stated on the live television broadcast that he thought that the race was not going to be red-flagged because of the crash (and insinuated that he decided to help matters along himself). Yates then called VIR a "rinky-dink racetrack" before the broadcast cut away.

Yates was already on thin ice with AMA Pro Racing after crashing into the Road America podium area after his 600 win earlier this season. Yates was to be fined after the incident, but after apologizing he was allowed to skirt away unscathed.

It is very doubtful that AMA Pro Racing will be in the same charitable mood the next time they speak with Yates.

I find it amusing how when you read the article it kind of sounds like Yates laid down on the track, causing the red flag, and then causing Roberts bike to burst into flames. :)
I thought the "causing" the red flag was a good move. Did you see the bike on the track that the sissy Roberts couldn't lift?
Fu(k on TV? Come on people. How many of you have not said it? Ever let a curse word slip in front of a child? What about when you are all jacked up on adrenaline and worked up about what happened?
I agree the rinky dink part wasn't completely cool, but I laughed at it. Didn't he also say in the same sentence, that it wasn't that bad of a track or something along those lines. Thenagain, see previous comment about being jacked up and emotional.

THE D.O.C.

put down the aaron yates action figure. he's a dick, and you know it.  ;)

Yates laid in the track to stop the race because there was bike in an impact line, and no red flag was waving. Good intentions bad move.
Yates said "f%&ck" in the heat of trying to get his bike back together, give me a break we've all done it.
Yes he did say the track was rinky dinky, but I guess everyone missed him saying and this is one of the bettter ones. This is a comment he should not have made but he is not the first or last to say somehting about a track.

GAMEDIC

he should have never done that...i taped it and watched it back in slow motion and the corner worker had put down the yellow flag and grabed the red flag before aaron ever got on the track....he was pissed about the wreck and wanted to get back in it so the best way to do that was get a red flag...after making an ass out of himself..there was about to be a red flag anyway

Ex_CCS_Racer

Saying fuck on live TV is unprofessional ??? Hope you're not a Picotte fan(I am). Remember the Daytona 200 a few years ago when the air horn blew while he was being interviewed during the red flag? Damn unprofessional Canuck ;D

skydiver19

I didn't hear the "rinky dink" comment.  What was the context ?  Or what specifically about VIR was he referring to ?  Granted, VIR doesn't have the retaining walls, armco barriers, poor pavement, and lack of run-off that he's used to at other AMA tracks, but hey, at least we have a turn called the "hogpen."

It's great to see everyone rally around our prescious V.I.R.  Just goes to show that it takes the blood, sweat, and financial destitution that is the "club racer" to fully appreciate the privilege and pleasure of being able to race at facility like VIR.

ecumike

yea, speaking of interviews... what the hell was up with the announcer(s) at the track ?... they were talking all over eachother and at the same time... couldn't hear sh1t. It sucked and was REALLY annoying on SBK race  #2

THE D.O.C.

aaron yates made the rinky dink comment specifically about vir. caught himself and bailed it out with "oh but this is not as bad"  ::) he's a clown. not much simpler than that.

rmahr137

are you guys talking about the same race I saw? The one where Yates had to dump his bike to keep from riding straight into a wall!  He has every right to say what he is thinking, just because you don't agree with him doesn't make what he said wrong.  And he slipped during the interview and said a bad word, you could tell it was an accident, and he didn't do it again.  It happens in other sports all the time.

Laying in the track was questionable, but he did what he thought had to be done.

Does the track hire the cornerworkers or did the AMA.  It almost looked like they were lost, especially the one walking towards Nicky's bike with the fire extinguisher, watching it burn.

Litespeed

With a hot track, I would be skeptical to walk out to the bike too.  In case you didn't notice, there were bikes coming through that section as he was timidly approaching the bike and I am sure he didn't know if the track had anything on it.  If I were in his shoes I would have taken my time also.  My safety is worth much more than a factory superbike...

there are walls around every race track we go to. stay the hell out of daytona with that mentality. yates never has a right to be an ass. just you try that crap in a ccs race and see what happens. bye bye license. now throw away your aaron yates lunch box and admit it. yesterday was not his finest day in pro racing. what an a$$. don't forget he tried to lie in the track a couple of years ago in a WSB race too. what a great competitor.  ::)

Four crashes in one weekend, three red flags in one race, ran off the track avoiding a wreck and wadding up his bike in the process. I can't for the life of me figure out why the boy would be upset. ??? ???
Say what you want and pretend you've never been angry and said a cuss word, but you gotta admit the boy can ride a motorcycle. ;D ;D ;D

THE D.O.C.

plenty of folks out there who can ride. it takes ability to excel at a multitude of things. aaron can only ride. people like him end up on enduranc teams in euprope, never to be heard from again. buh bye aaron!!! ;)

Gixxer124

Get over it!  :P

I met Aaron Yates at Mid-Ohio a couple years ago and he is the total opposite of what you are describing. Everyone has a bad day, if he does it again then maybe you have a point. Why not jump all over Anthony Gobert for all the crap he dishes out? Oh wait he keeps his mouth shut these days because he did so poorly this year. ;D

stillslow

Yea, with the attitude you describe he has he might even be banished to a World Superbike team. Attitude is what Factory teams hire these guys for, right? I don't know if you can remember "King" Kenny's attitude, but it was even worse than his son. I sure hope Yates' attitude doesn't force him into becoming a World Champion.  ::) ::) ;) ;)

TZDeSioux

Aaron Yates rules mang! Joo dont know whatchoo  talking about mang....

is this the same anthony gobert who has had a worse year than yates, or mladin? the same one who rides the slowest superbike un the field, and can still win? all the while praising his crew and yamaha with a smile on his face? yep. i stand, yates is an idiot. and mat mladin is a crybaby. jamie hacking is a moronic crasher. way to go yosh!!! the best team in the paddock this year. stand up and take a bow!!  ::)

it's just too bad that those privateers didn't run his stupid ass over. i had a customer of mine there this weekend. he had never seen superbike racing before. he was an avid car fan. his only negative comment was aaron's lack of synapse, and sportsmanship. that's a great way to act in a sport trhat EVERYONE would like to see go to the next level. everyone but aaron that is. :-/

sportbikepete

LOL! Anthony Gobert on the slowest Superbike. Can not argue there he got beat by Supersprot bikes. LOL! Bostrom seems to have no problem winning on his old bike. This is fun. ;)

TZDeSioux

well have you seen the size of bostrom's sideburns? Don't you know that the bigger your sideburns.. the lower the lap times? Get with the program man!

THE D.O.C.

i know..... it used to be platinum blonde hair won races?!?  ::)  ;D

um let's see........ how many world super bike winners in AMA ........... one . who is that.............um........ anthony gobert. well.... two, if you count doug chandler's hollow WSB victory at brainerd that year. my favorite? bostrom comstantly whining about lapped traffic, and getting his ass lapped this year in WSB!!! irony. "get outta tha way eric!! you are holding up the leaders!! te he.

Dawn

THE D.O.C.

I still think you should change your name to THE INSTIGATOR.
 ;)

sportbikepete

Isn't this the same type of ranting whining you are complaining about?  :o
Now yes Anthony Gobert won WSBK but so, Mat Mladin won 3 AMA titles and what the hell does that mean now? This is not WSBK, and if he was that good wouldn't he still be over there? Ooops I forgot it was a bong thing, talk about doing your sponsors good and showing your character. ;D

Shiate this could go on for months. One time at band camp...

TZDeSioux

I think Honda should drop Valentino Rossi for attempting to grow that poor excuse for a beard on his face in the beginning of the season. Kato should also be dropped for trying to look like a freaking Japanimation character.

at least they wouldn't lie in a hot race line to get back in a race.  ;)

p.s. mladin couldn't beat gobert's meat. IMHO

THE D.O.C.

by the way, go to www.amasuperbike.com   click on "news" and take the aaron yates poll. sounds like the public is on my side on this one. so you aaron yates minions can kiss my ---  :-*

Dawn

Now that poll is funny  ;D  Or at least the first two options.

I'm sorry but the whole eipsode lacks maturity.

Time to move on....

THE D.O.C.

oh dawn. your maturity is SOOOOO boring.  :)

Dawn

Yeah I know,

I'm just an old coot trying to keep all you youngsters in line.   ;)

Some day I'll learn that there are certain things in life, that no matter how hard you try, you will never succeed in acomplishing it.

Actually four...come on now BW...you can do better than this. What about Tom Kipp and Pascal Picotte, both World Superbike winners at Mosport in 1991.

 ;D   ;D

Gixxer124

I love watching Aaron Yates race, but laying on the track playing dead was the most stupid thing I think I've seen. Might be ok for a pit bike race at Blackhawk, but not on national TV. How about walking to the edge of the track, waving your hands and pointing to Roberts bike? I think that would have been a more proffesional thing to do.

I have to wonder what the AMA reaction would be if it was a privateer that pulled this "stunt". Yoshimura-Suzuki has got to be estatic over the actions of it's riders this last weekend. Hacking commenting on his bike "maybe" making it through the race on Sunday after a DNF on Saturday-this from a guy that has wrecked more bikes this year than any professional racer of recent memeory, Mladin's post race antics after maybe his best performance of the year, and of course Yate's total disregard of others safety, let alone his own, just to be sure and get a restart. Hmmm.

Sharpen up old man, you've slipped...Papa would have been all over you for that.

MORGAN#721

Hey people wouldn't you be a little upset at the track too if it kicked your ass three times in one weekend.

You always shift the blame thats just how it works.

Gixxer124

Yeh. It was all the tracks fault. Thats the ticket. ::)

Gixxer124

What did Aaron have to say in his defense?

THE_D.O.C.

actually, he said it was the "rinky dink" racetrack's fault. go figure. what a richard!!  ::)
