Before joining Barber, Case co-founded Motus Motorcycles in 2008 and served as design director and managing board member until 2018. Motus Motorcycles produced the MST and MSTR sport-touring motorcycles.

"Having designed motorcycles myself, the collection at Barber has been a great source of inspiration over the last 18 years. George Barber's vision, and the museum's mission, resonate with my lifelong passion for motorsports. This is why I am so honored to lead the team at Barber and expand its reach for future generations," says Case.

While continuing the museum's mission, Case will further the institution's impact with a focus on the future of design.

"I'm excited to welcome Brian as executive director of this important collection. I'm particularly pleased with his work in the Barber Advanced Design Center. His creativity, drive and passion for motorsports make him the perfect person to bring the team together and lead us into the future," says Founder George Barber.

The museum is dedicated to the preservation, interpretation, exhibition, and history of motorcycles, vintage vehicles, and motorsports.

Motorcycle Talk / Harley-Davidson regarding prod...
Last post by Biketographer - June 13, 2023, 07:19:29 AM
MILWAUKEE, June 12, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Harley-Davidson, Inc. ("Harley-Davidson" or the "Company") (NYSE:HOG) was recently notified of a potential quality issue relating to brake hose assemblies provided by a tier-2 supplier, Proterial Cable America ("PCA"), a portfolio company of Bain Capital, to the Company's tier-1 brake system suppliers. The recently launched 2023 CVO Road Glide and Street Glide motorcycles do not utilize these brake hose assemblies.

Following this notification, Harley-Davidson will be running limited motorcycle manufacturing operations at its York facility. This is a new supplier quality issue, separate from the matter that caused the production suspension in May 2022.

Based on the latest information provided by PCA, the Company now anticipates resuming full motorcycle manufacturing operations at its York facility on June 26, 2023. The Company does not expect its international production to be meaningfully impacted.

Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, President and CEO, Harley-Davidson: "While retail sales have improved in the quarter, as we had expected, we have a strong inventory position in the network to help us navigate through this situation - our teams are working very hard to minimize the impact on the business."

Motorcycle Talk / motorcycle airbag
Last post by Biketographer - June 06, 2023, 01:13:17 PM
STOCKHOLM, June 2, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Autoliv, Inc. (NYSE: ALV) (SSE: ALIVsdb), is pioneering improved safety for 200 million road users through its holistic approach to motorcycle and scooter safety. The first new motorcycle safety product to reach the market will be the bag-on-bike airbag, with production beginning in Q1 2025. The bag-on-bike airbag can significantly reduce the risk of serious injury for powered two-wheeler riders in frontal crashes.

The number of powered two-wheelers continues to rise, due to widespread urbanization and the practicality of powered two-wheelers. Today, many scooters and motorcycles are equipped with advanced safety systems, such as ABS (Antilock Braking System) and ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation), and the addition of airbags will be a further step in this direction. Powered two-wheeler riders have not benefited to the same extent as car occupants from the many developments in vehicle safety.

"Autoliv is committed to our vision of Saving More Lives and to providing world class life-saving solutions for mobility and society. Therefore, we are developing products that specifically protect vulnerable road users, such as riders of powered two-wheelers. The development of these products is an integral part of our sustainability agenda," said Mikael Bratt, CEO and President, Autoliv.

The bag-on-bike airbag - a complete airbag system

Autoliv's extensive research into powered two-wheeler riding behavior and crashes has resulted in two sets of solutions - on-vehicle safety solutions and on-rider safety solutions. The first product to reach the market will be the bag-on-bike airbag, which is planned to go into production with the first customer in 2025.

"Our goal is to offer a complete and cost-efficient bag-on-bike system to facilitate the introduction of this technology for a wide variety of motorcycles. The Autoliv bag-on-bike airbag system will include an airbag and an optional in-house-developed electronic crash sensor to complete the system," said Jordi Lombarte, Chief Technical Officer, Autoliv.

Evolving safety regulations for powered two-wheelers

"To reach the global target of halving road traffic fatalities we need to increase the safety for powered two-wheeler riders. Through working with real life data, we understand the most frequent crashes and injury types and how to assess them in a laboratory environment. Through virtual and physical testing, we have demonstrated the benefit of the airbag in frontal crashes, and we acknowledge that there is a need for additional solutions to cover more crash situations and rider behaviors," said Cecilia Sunnevång, Vice President Research, Autoliv.

The safety of motorcycle riders is the focus of many regulators and consumer crash test organizations. Euro NCAP is targeting enhanced motorcycle rider safety by expanding vehicle crash avoidance testing to include powered two-wheeler crash scenarios. In Asia, the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) indicates that the rating of on-vehicle safety solutions will be adopted in 2024 in their Malaysian Motorcycle Assessment Program (MyMAP).

Motorcycle Talk / Verdict of $161 Million agains...
Last post by Biketographer - May 17, 2023, 11:29:43 AM
If you wonder what I think of some lawyers....   $161,000,000 for a broken leg.

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif., May 5, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- The Simon Law Group and the Trial Lab are thrilled to announce a historic verdict of $161 million in the case of Soulliere v. Suzuki Motor Corporation. A motorcycle accident case, this landmark verdict is a major accomplishment for our team, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to our lawyers Robbie Munoz, Travis Davis, and Gabe Houston (The Trial Lab) for their tireless efforts and outstanding work on this case.

This landmark verdict demonstrates our commitment to seeking justice for our clients.

Suzuki had defective brakes on their motorcycles and hid that from consumers for years. Our client broke his leg in a crash when the front brake cylinder on his motorcycle failed.

The verdict, which resulted from a retrial following numerous appeals, amounted to an $11 million award in compensatory damages and $150 million in punitive damages. It marks a significant victory in our ongoing fight for justice and accountability. Our client was severely injured in a motorcycle accident when the front brake master cylinder on his Suzuki motorcycle failed due to a defect that the company had concealed from the public for years.

At The Simon Law Group and the Trial Lab, we are committed to holding corporations accountable for their actions, particularly when they endanger the safety and well-being of consumers. We have long believed that it is the responsibility of companies like Suzuki Motor Corporation to prioritize the safety of their products and provide clear and transparent information to consumers about potential risks.

Our team worked tirelessly for years to pursue justice in this case, and we are proud of the outcome. In 2018, we obtained a favorable verdict, but it was subsequently overturned on appeal. Despite the odds, we persevered, were granted a new trial, overcame another appeal, and ultimately tried the case, which led to this incredible verdict.

This landmark verdict demonstrates our commitment to seeking justice for our clients and our dedication to holding negligent corporations accountable for their actions. While we celebrate this momentous victory, we acknowledge that there is still work to be done, including post-trial motions and possibly more appeals. However, this verdict sends a clear message to corporations that they will be held accountable for their actions and that we will continue to fight tirelessly for the rights of our clients.
