AMA Newbie / Wannabe
« on: October 24, 2002, 05:22:14 AM »
I'm looking to run some AMA weekends this year.  600 class.  Can anybody point me in the right direction for licensing and registration?

Perhaps some administrative tips from those who've done this???

Thanks.

Big jump, JeF4y.

Unless you can do a 2:28 last year at RA, you'd be bumped from the grid and would have wasted your time.

Save the money for tires, schools, or brake pads until you can run up front  as an expert.

I pulled a 2:30 and know there were many places to go faster.  Plus, with it being on my F4 which was pretty down on HP, I figured I could improve by at least a second or two on the new bike.

<sigh> I just wanna be on TV and come back to work saying "hey, I got lapped by Tommy Hayden!"</sigh>

Don't forget about the $300 AMA license.  And if the front runners don't like your line, you will become their berm.  Pro racing IS a contact sport.  There is only so much room, and the bikes move around a lot.

Weeded and Tez went faster in the spring too, but when the AMA time came up, it was a real struggle.

Again, it's better to get it figured out first, then do it.

I've been there, I can only give advice and thoughts....

And we pay you for such.  Thanks for you 'food for thought', I will see how things go...  Hell, after all, I have 1.75 bikes completely ripped apart right now, no trailer (sold last night) and 1 bike that still isn't in!

I know where you are coming from.  Dave makes a lot of sense, but you need to fulfill those dreams.  Well, whenever you get there, enjoy the TV for me.  Us Superstock squids don't get any TV coverage.  And yeah, I know, 600 are more fun to watch these days.

Just wondering: What are the superstock and supersport purse is like? Would you get anything for qualifying and finishing in the back?

I would gladly pay for my dreams, but it would be even nicer if it won't cost THAT much...

I finally got my time down enough at VIR to qualify for supersport if not a full grid, and it would be a dream come true if I could be on the same grid as the factory guys... I am aiming for 2004 though, I know I am not really ready

Carr, you are forgetting something... You can teach them how to ride as well!  You rip!

As for the purses that were asked about earlier.  Don't count on it.  Superbike pays out to 30th.  The suport classes pay out less.  I think only to 15th or 20th.  Very hard to attain.  (as is 30th in Superbike.  I think my buddy got 30th in Superbike at RA and was turning 2:18s.)

And the weekend is expensive!  Count on three sets of tires minimum to contest one class for a weekend.

And yeah, I am sure that I will be dumb enough to do it next year as well!

Hey, at least there are purses in Supersport/Superstock now.  There weren't any until a few years ago.

Bill, did you get that front end fixed yet?

No front end fix for me yet.  Although, Hanson took it to Daytona and has personally threatened my life if I don't do something about it before next year.  I promise to do something this winter.

Will you please pester me every chance you get to play with my suspension and not just ride it?

How is the R1 search going?
