Frame with no VIN#

My last CCS race was in 2002. I kept my AHRMA license current but have not raced, just track days. I recently picked up a pretty rare piece. It is a Ducati Troll. It has a 900 air cooled Ducati (1996) and a one of 13 made Troll Engineering frame and bodywork (look like a Supermono) kit. I believe it was built and sold by Jeff Nash but have not pursued that yet. It is currently visiting Donnie Unger's DucPond Motorsports to be photographed with two other Trolls that he has at his shop owned by another one of his customers. My version has lights, turnsignals, etc., and is tagged as a 96 900 Ducati though the frame has no VIN #.
I am considering a return to CCS Racing in 2012 and am trying to find out the legality of my bike and classes that I can run. Reading the rulebook looks like I can run in LWGP, GT Lights and LWF40 (I am 60). It is too light for Thunderbike and LWSBK specifies a street bike available for street use sold through normal commercial channels.
There is a clause saying that CCS may make exemptions on an individual basis and that the race director would have that list at the events. How do I go about confirming that I can race this bike next year before spending the money this winter on race bodywork, tires etc.?

I highly doubt you would be allowed in street based classes. 1 no VIN 2 is there a service manual/ parts fiche to verify parts on bike are the stock parts or do not exceed class modification limits? 3 was it sold by the manufacturer as street bike? 4 registration/title is Ducati but not a Ducati frame

The definitive answer would come from emailing info@ccsracing.us with bike info.
Hate to be wet blanket. While it sounds like a cool machine you may be better off with a full GP machine in GP classes or a regular street based machine.

As of now I think you are only legal for GTLights, LWGP.

We are running into all kinds of problems in the LW classes because not many LW bikes are currently being manufactured so people are going out of their way to get a better bike- not easy.

We proposed that any frame and engine combo be allowed as long as displacement limits were met for LWSB, which would let us downsize 748's and / or put an air cooled engine in the 748 or even 848 frame. Waiting on the rules committee.....

In addition to Ltwt GP, GTL, and Ltwt F40, you would also be eligible for SuperTwins. I raced my 999 2-valve/851 Corse chassis in GTL and LtWt GP this past year; I did the first couple of SuperTwins races down at Topeka, but I wasn't competitive as I was giving up anywhere from 40 to 65 hp to most of the other bikes. I'd guess that if you were racing amateur ST, you'd be in the mix. So, would 4 classes be enough for you? Keep in mind that ST and F40 do not count towards overall points, but you'd certainly get plenty of track time. Regardless, you must race the Troll!

Interesting.  The way I read the rules 6.7.1 abd 6.7.2, a LWGP bike would be eligible for F40, not LW40.  It seems pretty specific on that.  What am I missing here?

6.7.1 All machines legal for LWSS, LWSB, LWGP or Thunderbike are legal for LIGHTWEIGHT F40.
What are you missing? Looks like you missed the "lightweight" part.

Also below in Lightweight Formula 40 bikes include:

Thanks for the encouragement to race it Farmboy. Most think I am out of my mind to race a rare bike. I raced in LWGP, GT Lights and F40(no LW/HW at the time) on an SV650 in 2001/2002 and did fairly well. I have no problem running against SVs. But these track days I've done sharing the track with liter bikes can be a tad nerve wracking.
If Gino's idea gets approved I might do LWSB as well. But frankly at 60 years young, practice, two sprints and a GT race would do me for a weekend.
I will send the bike info to the link Eric provided and let you all know how it goes. Hope to see you at the track in 2012!

Rare or otherwise, these bikes were built to be raced. FrankenDuc is worth probably 4-5x what I paid for it if I were to part it out (tons of TI, magnesium, Corse factory parts, ex-Adamo frame, etc.), but it was built as a no-holds-barred racebike, and entrusted to me because I would use it for what it was intended, so that's what I'm doing with it. I think you are spot-on taking it to the track fwiw.

What region will you be racing in? What spec is the motor? How much ya pay for that thing? I found some references to it on various boards; I assume it's the same bike that was for sale on the 13x forum in the spring? (The 13x link is dead.) Looks like a very cool bike; hope I get to check it out some time. If you ever want to sell it...

Anyway, have fun rocking out on it, it NEEDS to go racing, I can just tell. Oh, also, by the way, if it has a carbon tank, seal that thing NOW, before the season starts. Seems like everyone I know with a carbon tank is springing leaks; I found one while winterizing the bike a few weeks back. Better now than mid-season!

I was reading from a locally saved copy of the rulebook which says 2011 on it and has the 2011 schedule at the end.   I downloaded it on Feb 15th 2011, after the first rounds were run at Firebird and Homestead.  Apparently these rules were updated at some point after that.  Here are the rules sections from my locally saved 2011 copy.  I guess I will stop keeping a locally downloaded copy.  lol.  Sorry if I caused any confusion.

6.7.1 All machines legal for Lightweight SuperSport, Lightweight SuperBike, 125 Grand Prix or Thunderbike are legal for Lightweight Formula 40.
6.7.2 All Formula 40 machines must meet the requirements of Lightweight Grand Prix or Heavyweight Superbike.

Kevin Elliot responded in very short order (Thanks Kevin!) that it is legal in LWGP, GT Lights and LWF40. I am filling out my license application and sending it in today.
Jim: Yes it was the one on the 13x forum. When the seller put that he would take $9k due to a timing belt failure (he claimed to have $50k in the bike) it took me about 23 seconds to decide to buy it. My intention was to ride it at track days but ya know how that can go.
I live 30 minutes from Summit Point and 5 hours from VIR so I will be doing the Mid Atlantic Region races.
Motor spec is a little vague. He claimed to have $15K in the motor at AMS but has never sent me any receipts or paperwork other than the 96 900 title. I had the bike shipped directly to Donnie Unger @ http://www.ducpond.com/ There are pics of two other Trolls on his website.
The valve had stuck and not damaged the piston. I was very lucky. He measured the bore and it does not have a 944 kit. Odd. Lots of eye candy though and very light. The ad stated the bike was 330 lb ready to ride. I replaced the stock battery with a Power Pulse Lithium battery losing close to another 10 pounds.   
I took it back there after the third track day so he could shoot pics of it with two other Trolls being worked on by him at his shop in Winchester.
in Winchester. AirTech makes bodywork for the SuperMono and a kit to make a 900 supersport look like a Supermono. Time to get some ordered. They will make whatever I need once we give them some measurements. Losing the lights and signals should drop another 5-10 lbs I am guessing.

I thought it would be Thunderbike legal as well. But I guess not. I think the weight rules in Thunderbike are for ASRA Thunderbike and not CCS Thunderbike.

I can't wait to see it at Summit next year.
