ignition switch

i am about to sell the ingnition from my bike and wont have a keyed ignition. i looked through the rule book and cant find anything. do i have to have 2 sources to kill the bike or can i wire the ignition wires into the kill switch on the right handlebar.

I don't believe you need 2 sources, just one clearly marked.  But I'm not positive.  You can wire it to the Kill switch.

I have my ign switch removed, and wired into the kill switch. Never been a problem.

Per the rule book:
5.2.5 All machines must have an operational handlebar mounted kill switch
or button. This switch must be easily identifiable by color or emblem for use
by safety crew members.

Doesn't say anything about having to have 2 sources.

But its still a good idea to have a master kill that kills everything (just like the ignition switch does). The bar mount just kills the engine, but the electrics still usually function.

Couple years ago I had to pick up a R6 whos tanks broke open and had gas everywhere. Right bar was totally gone (as was the switch). ignition was removed. Problem was the guages were sparking since there was still power going to them. If people are going to remove the ignition switch, they need to have a standardized place on a bike for a master kill so safety crews know where it is.

I wish more would do it that way if they remove teh ignition switch. When I pick up a downed bike the first thing I do is turn the key (if equipped) off.

i was thinking about that. The switch is huge and bright red so it is easily seen.

Usually, if one removes the key switch completely, the bar mounted switch does kill the power completely.  Not doing so would be like leaving the bike on all the time.  It would kill the battery.  Most of the kit set ups out there that eliminate the key switch do this.

Problem is Dave, some people jury-rig these. Always have a couple bikes a year where the rider has a separate switch to kill all the power hidden somewhere. Hell even my old racebike had the start button under the seat (previous owner did).
